There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Crikey. Um. I like country, punk, ska, reggae, pop, psychedelia, soul, hip-hop, 60s pop, 70s rock, dance music. I've recently started listening to classical music and there's a few jazz tunes I like. I'm not sure I can even narrow it down to 10 favourite categories... but I'll list the first 10 bands that come to mind!

In no particular order: Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Stone Roses. The Smiths. Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd. The Who. Bob Dylan & The Band, Gram Parsons & Flying Burrito Brothers. The Clash.

[I also like Pulp, Suede, Blur. Radiohead. The Pogues. My Bloody Valentine. Ride. Ash. St Etienne. Boo Radleys. Supergrass. The Pixies. Violent Femmes. Flaming Lips. The Verve. John Spencer Blues Explosion. Bob Marley and The Wailers. Madness. The Specials. Wu Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, De la Soul. Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone. Smokey Robinson. The Orb, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Orbitol. Bjork. Patsy Cline. Franz Ferdinand. Strokes, White Stripes. The Streets. Eminem. Buck Owens. Small Faces. Beach Boys. Byrds. Love. Stones. Kinks. Velvet Underground. The Doors. The Coral. Beautiful South. Black Grape.]

If we're really talking bands, and not solo artists, then right now I'd pick something like the following, in no particular order apart from the first:

Têtes Raides
Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra
La Tordue
Fanfare Ciocărlia
Taraf De Haïdouks
Zebda
Fabulous Trobadors
Banda Bassotti
Ska-P
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
Mahala Raï Banda
Les Négresses Vertes
Les Ogres de Barback
Slonovski Bal

But a few years ago my list would have included The Pogues, Levellers, Chumbawamba, Radiohead, The Clash, Velvet Underground, The Specials, Madness, The Beat, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Graham Parker and the Rumour, Blondie, The Pretenders, Talking Heads, Roxy Music, The Jam, The Kinks, and many others already named here.

In no particular order:
King Crimson
Beatles
Talking Heads
Steeley Dan
Cocteau Twins
Dead Can Dance
Radiohead
The Four Tops
Beach Boys

Definitely showing my age! What has happened to popular music recently? Can't find anything I like - any recommendations from anyone?

I can't really think of any new bands that I like but I do like the odd new song. You could try The Kooks Naive - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-KnNVoFsCc or The Blow Parentheses - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJli9bjv2YI (I got slightly obsessed by this last song when I first heard it).

Try Sigur Ros, Icelandic alternative group. Gorgeous sounds. They're friends with Radiohead too.

For DCD reminiscence, check out Vas, and Peter Ulrich.

ALso...OOO, there's a BC guy, Drum and Bell Tower, he hasn't made it big yet, but he's like a Radiohead/electronica cross with bits of Neil Young and Beck in it. One man operation, he's awesome: www.myspace.com/drumandbelltower

Another new band I really like is Hot Chip. Appeals to the Depeche/Duran side of me. Pumped up, retro, electronic, dance-pop music. I have the album "The Warning". Really cool.

I really like King Krimson too. Way cool. Oh, do you know Porcupine Tree? They're fairly new to me. They sound heavily Pink Floyd inspired among other things. A fair bit of 80's in there.

OK what is it with everyone here having such good taste in music?

1. The Beatles
2. Sigur Ros
3. Radiohead
4. Joy Division
5. Low
6. King Crimson
(especially the 1973-74 period, but I like all of it)
7. Mogwai
8. Grant Lee Buffalo
9. Velvet Underground
10. Jimi Hendrix

There was a time I would have U2 to this list... Doves, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Franz Ferdinand, Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Roxy Music (the early years with Eno), the Bee Gees (the early days, before they turned to the Dark Side! LOL), John Lennon, CSNY, Bic Runga, the Moody Blues, Interpol, Elbow, Sunzanne Vega, the Verve, Patti Smith, Three Dog Night, Yes (the 1971-1974 period), Cocteau Twins, the Police are other bands that ought to be mentioned... I'm sure I'm forgetting a few!

I won't mention more electronic-oriented stuff-- that's a whole different can of worms!
