Just spoke to Alan. He is still offline but BT have fixed a fault and Orange are sending him a new box so things are looking hopeful for midweek. He is very frustrated by the lack of internet but sends best wishes to TH pals.

I suspect he'll be suffering withdrawal symptoms...poor Alan! But I don't think it'll take him long to get back into the swing of things!

I wonder what he's been doing with all that spare time?

Alan Henness

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Going stir crazy is what he says. However, he has also been heavily engaged in extreme garden maintenance. We'll ask him when that orange gets him going again.

Orange? I remember the experiment in O Grade physics where you stuck two electrodes in a lemon and got an electric current. Is this a development of the same technique? Maybe he just needs a fresh one? But then, he probably grows them and would have provided one if that was all it needed.

Morning all! I'm off for some serious driver training today with Skidcar Uk in Elgin. I'll report when I get back.

I wonder if AlanC will get his new orange today and get back online. I do hope so. It's a bit odd without him.

It was pretty amazing, the skid car training. I was held on a disused airfield outside Elgin. We used a car with a trolley frame bolted to it. The trolley can be raised or lowered to decrease the weight on the car wheels and thus simulate different sorts of skid, and finally (and fairly terrifying) aquaplaning. I would recomment it to everyone who drives.

I did it in a less hi-tech way on a skid pan doused with water and oil. It was a hoot. Glad you enjoyed your day Lewist. A lot of aquaplaning accidents happen when drivers panic steer, then when the wheels get grip again they are pointing in the wrong damn direction. Not recommended.

We did the aquaplaning at 30mph on a 50m wide runway and it was still scary. Our instructor said they used to do it at 60mph but got fed up having the car lifted back onto the concrete because it is totally unpredictable once it aquaplanes.

I'd love to do some skid training in something big, like a bus or big lorry :supershock: Reckon if I could control that I'd be grand on the local roads in the awful conditions I sometimes have to drive in...

Talked to Alan C tonight, and although he has a new orange box he's not very well and has not had the time or energy to do the black art of telecoms needful. I think he'll feel better when Mary returns tomorrow, and he was very grateful for reports of our concern.

The place is not quite the same without him. I agree btw, it would be a blast to get a truck on a skidpan.

Poor Alan got no peace at all tonight, as I phoned him too, :D before I went off for music at The Man of Kent. He was very pleased to be missed. Let's hope things will be restored to normal very soon. He's got a thread or two to catch up on....

I'm back folks (like it or not)
I think I had food poisening (not from my cooking of course ,) but from some "pre-cooked" prawns I bought from the co-op,
Although everybody I speak to here is convinced it was swine flue (queer lot  They believe what they read in the tabloids)
I think I'm over it now and thanks sooooo much for everybody's concern.

Mary returned Friday night and was on the phone to orange from 15.00 Saturday till 18.30 and still no fix,
I can get the wired connection (obviousley) but we can't get her laptop online, they're sending out (another) new router.

A huge thank you for all your concern and before I forget............... A number.

I see that the possible "suspect" has been ill and away, so I think it behooves us, as Humanists (and penguins), to forgive this instance of his recklessness.

In spite of your suspiciously penguinny avatar, I'll giver you the benefit of a the doubt as a relative newbie, Ken. Penguin lurks in the frozen shadows of Benbecula, waiting for some poor unsuspecting poster, before de-railing the countdown thread by thinking of a number- any number- to throw into the thread.

The real number would appear to be...........

But Nick, I think Penguin could be correct. Look at Lewist's number just before Alan's. The maths flu must have hit Britian. Penguins are immune!

Right you lot, fall in, penguins to the left, non penguins to the right, everybody else stand in the corner. Penguins are not immune, they are very naughty birds. Ken-H failed to add a number in his last post. The number is..

Wait for it.....wait for it.....
