Yes, burgled, and it was a horrible experience on so many levels. Someone left a note for me on the main door to an Edinburgh stair by a bus stop - my brother's flat i was supposedly looking after. When I returned, the front door was open and clearly the flat had been rifled through. Not ransacked or damaged. All my valuables had gone, including a walkman (v expensive pressie from brother) which were unknown in the UK at the time.
I felt very angry, violated, dirty and frightened, living there by myself. The police asked me to list what was missing - which was not easy being full of my brother's eclectic stuff, and they weren't gonna take the baby grand
The only thing of his that I couldn't find was his bongo drums. Cue Lothian Police to ask all and sundry if they'd seen anyone looking suspicious carrying bongo drums. 3 weeks later I found them in the airing cupboard...
I very unfairly sent the note writer away from my life with a severe ear drilling. Shame. He was a good egg apart from leaving notes without thinking.
I had to tell my brother his fabulous pressie had been stolen and his precious bongo drums were missing, and then that they weren't.
It took me a long time to trust people again.
Horrible experience, but many lessons learnt, all contributing to me being the wise woman I aspire to be.
