Latest post of the previous page:

That's great, Alan  Not my usual musical genre, but then again, music of all sorts can be so powerful.

I think this is the right thread for this video, but I was thinking only today that we should have a 'favourite you tube' thread, for videos which just take our fancy, just 'cos we like them......

*toddles off to start new thread*

You may be interested to know that Christopher Hitchens' "God is Not Great" is available on Youtube, read by the author. Unfortunately it is in 10 minute bites, but anyway, it's available, beginning at:

Utterly amazing and inspiring science! Such a change from the looking to the non-science invoked by AltMeds I've been doing recently!

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

I don't know if this series has been posted before, but if I've forgotten, then maybe it's time to bump it, not least for those who don't want to trawl through all the past history of this thread (That's my excuse anyway.)

The motion is "We'd be better off without God"

And the speakers, on both sides, are a cut above the average.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivYoBJANsaM&NR=1

My reaction , though somewhat predictable, is this:

Even if (belief in) God makes us "better off", it doesn't make God true.

and

If we devoted as much time and effort into philosophising about what would make the world "a better place", in whatever field you care to name, whether it's human rights, art, music, comfort for the bereaved, law and order or whatever) as we (as a species) do about promoting religious falsehood, (official sanction and daily exhortation) we'd obtain some pretty spectacular results, maybe better than those obtained by belief in God.

No I hadn't seen it before though it's a couple of years old, pleased to see the motion was carried.

Another awesome performance by Hitchens, even if he is spectacularly rude at times.....

Here he is Down Under in a debate entitled God, Sodomy and the Lash

Enjoy!

This is a video depicting one Christian man's views on slavery, animated by a "free thinker." Amusing and disturbing at the same time...
