Who makes you laugh? Favourite comedians and sitcoms.

I think for me the first choice is Billy Connolly. I have a fondness for Victoria Wood and French and Saunders.
I've been dredging my memory for sitcoms. Apart from Absolutely Fabulous, I remember really enjoying Roseanne many years ago and of course Friends is a legend.
Anyone else?

Funniest I ever saw was Bob Monkhouse at a private dinner. I was sore the next day I had laughed so much. For 40 minutes he had everyone in stitches. Because it wasn't TV he wasn't restricted in his choice of material.
If I hadn't been there I wouldn't have believed it because he was so different to how he appears on TV.

I remember seeing him on 'Have I got news for you?' and being surprised how witty he was (and foul mouthed).Moose wrote:I'd be interested to know what Monkhouse was like when he was not 'restricted'. I thought he always came across as a nice chap - though it's a bit disconcerting to see him doing post-humous adverts - but I never found him all that funny.
I'm finding it hard to pick a favourite comic. Rowan Atkinson is right up there with Mr Bean and Blackadder but for stand up, I'd probably go with Billy Connolly.
I love sketch shows like Little Britain and Catherine Tate, too.
There's nothing wrong with Morcambe and Wise although some of it looks dated now.
I can't let this thread die without giving a mention to Ardal O'Hanlon who doesn't do nearly enough stand up - or if he does, it doesn't get recorded.

Thanks Alan, I'd forgotten about Phil Cool, just mildly rude.
