Stockings for everyone (4 children now 19 - 28, + 2 grandmas in 80s), followed by croissants, coffee, orange juice for the abstemious, full fry up for others.
Intensive kitchen work: then me + my 2 children (no one else interested or able) walk to top of nearest hill (Robinswood)+ dog + bottle of champagne, which we drink looking down on Gloucester. Then huge blow out meal, usually goose and only after this is it presents (usually round 6 pm). Board games, TV, left-over sandwiches.
This is the ideal. I think it actually happened like this once, but since the children have had rows (stepchildren rarely agree), and now want to stay with boy/girlfriends, other parents etc it's usually a very changable line-up.
But I always try to go up the hill, and to have the presents late (makes the day terrifically over-exciting!)
What do you like to do on your birthday?
