Latest post of the previous page:

is no 7 "follower"? A river is a flower, and old pound could be just O(ld ) L(ibra); and a digger is sort of following whatever is sought

I did wonder if 6 was "lodger" even before the "e" appeared; obviously an anagram of dogrel (I had not seen this spelling before but it's OK - of course!), and I suppose a lodger is sort of exotic!

Another two bite the dust ! Well done, again. :-)

7. Digger finds old pound in river (8) : FOLLOWER
- From O and L just as you say, inside FLOW--ER, a thing which flows.
- I had just taken it from "Dig that music" etc. i.e. one who appreciates it = a follower.

6. Digger finds exotic example of dogrel (6) : LODGER - which is an anagram (exotic example) of D-O-G-R-E-L
- My Collins English Dictionary, reproduced in http://www.thefreedictionary.com has Item 10. -
- to dig : to have lodgings, "I dig in South London".
- so, if "I dig", then I must be a "digger".

- Only three to go.

I think it would be best to finish off these clues now.

1. Digger finds article with unknown power (5) : ANZAC -- the Anzacs in WWI were known as The Diggers.
- The confirmation comes from - AN (indefinite article) + Z (algebraic Unknowns X,Y or Z) + AC (not DC power)

2. Digger finds painting with electronic data attached (9) : ARTEFACTS - which are finds made by a digger on
- an archaeological dig. From : ART (painting) + E-FACTS (electronic data) All together = "Digger finds".

3. Digger finds sensational item to chronicle (5) : SCOOP - which is an implement for digging.
- also a sensational news-item for reporting.

Animist, it's your turn now - but I think I'll sit it out for a wee while.

Well, can I have a go ? I'll try : Komodo dragon
- To drag on is to have no ending point, and Komodo is an island in Indonesia.
Does that fit ?

absolutely brilliant, but it was not what I meant (Emma W. also sometimes improves my clues with her answers :laughter: ) (only hole I can find is that it was pointless, not endless)

I'll amplify to make it more(?) uniquely referring:

pointless end of remote and peaceful insular oriental happened at the time of the eggs (6,6)

Now I challenge you to get it both wrong and plausible!

Let's get rid of this clue.

It may be too bright so get down: urge one to get down into the shade (4,3,4)

The answer is : DUCK EGG BLUE - and is made up as follows -

- It may be too bright (or not) so it's something like Sunshine, a light, a colour etc.
- so . . . get down = Duck !
- urge one = Egg (someone on)
- all of which is to get (a word for) "down" = blue (feeling down = feeling blue)
- and the whole thing turns into "the shade". Which shade ? Well . . . duck egg blue.

I know this is wrong, Pete, but I don't want you to get discouraged by our notable lack of success in solving your very clever clues.

Anyway: CARAVAN

Hello Animist,
Thanks for your words of encouragement. :-)

That last clue : Taxi takes Scots bit of fluff to see American railroad crew's mobile home (7) = CABOOSE

Taxi = CAB - plus a Scots word for fluff : OOSE. And a caboose is a brake van on American railroads
and because of the huge distances involved, it was fitted out for living and sleeping in. Many cabooses
were actually assigned to particular crew members, and were treated as their own mobile home.
The truth is now coming out - I'm a bit of a railway enthusiast !

Anyway, I think I'll take a break from the Cryptic Clues for a wee while - might even think about making
the odd contribution to some of the meaningful threads. Do carry on the good work.
