I was a big Bowie fan in the 70s and 80s (how can you tell?), but thatnks a bio I'm currently reading, I'm listening to some of his more secent stuff. I kind of gave up on him around the "China Girl" period as (I thought) I was way too cool to listen to such commercial music (totally ignorng the fact that Ziggy Stardust and Alladin Sane were alo commercial). I'm currently listening to "Heathen", which I think is the best post 80s music of his I have heard (though, I haven't heard all that much)- and not a sparkle in sight!

Amazingly, THISwas composed only in 1992. For some reason, it seems as if it should be "traditional" - lost in the mists of time.

If I had composed this, I could die happy.





Mind you...! What is it with musicians and hats? Only WRNS should wear hats indoors!

That's strange, I get everything but the actual video when I click on you link, Nick, ooer. Nothing to do with the link I think (since it worked for Lewis).

Nope, for some reason, even when I signed in, I do not get the play-screen up in YouTube however I select it! Everything on the screen but!

Taken a look at my settings and can see nothing there that suggests anything.

Later: Hurray! after a reboot, five Firefox crashes, a lot of swearing (essential) and two threats to defenestrate the laptop it all behaved and I enjoyed the piece - thanks, Nick!

Andrew Hill's "Refuge" - I have just seen the lead sheet for this magnificent (if quite brief, and maybe under-orchestrated) tune, so I will be practising it like mad. Any comments on Eric Dolphy (the second solo, with all the swoops)?. He died fairly suddenly in 1964 and was totally unique IMO - more so even than Coltrane, with whom he played
