Latest post of the previous page:

I never joined FB and wonder, what ever happened to keeping up with close friends and relatives through email, phone calls, and/or visits? We've become such a "standoffish" impersonal bunch. It's like texting, in that I hate getting or sending them. I would much rather call them and actually hear their voices. I guess that makes me old fashioned or technically illiterate.

A friend and I often text or email - but we have got to know each well enough that often three or four words convey the thought - and often the joke :-)

Doesn't stop the hour long calls a couple of times a week though . . .

I can see the point of texting as far as sending a short quick message that needs no reply. But, for a conversation, I want to actually speak to the person and hear them speak back to me.

I am even worse. If you want to talk to me and you live within commuting distance, let's have coffee, a lunch or a walk together and enjoy a real conversation! Long phone calls are for those at a great distance. This attitude formed long before the internet was invented and could explain why my phone rarely rings. :headbang: .

Nothing wrong with both. Some of my friends aren't online, so only phone calls or letters will do. However, I'm in touch with my Facebook friends daily, and have continuing conversations with them. Have made new friends online and even met some offline. Others are too far away to meet but we've been in touch for years, exchanging emails etc.

Ditto here. I have met new friends on line whom I will never meet in life. Well, not totally true. After my husband died, I joined an on-line support group and one of my "friends" there was living right here in town. We did get to know each other and met several times but she has since moved away.

Of course I have also met folks here that I would consider friends and hope to meet someday.

Still I prefer face-to-face friendships. Doesn't everyone?

Awww Shucks! I will just dip out and rob a bank and then be on the next plane to London.

In all seriousness, perhaps I could make it to one of your meet-ups in the not-to-distant future. It would be great to meet so many kindred spirits.
