My axis will probably be tilting every which way after I have imbibed a few glasses of Merlot and a drop of Brandy later!

The temperature is unseasonably mild here at 10 Celsius today, however, it didn't get 'daylight' til 9.40 and was dark again at 15.15.
Upwards and onwards from today
PS.
Wet and windy though with much ferry disruptions.

Never a shipping forecast goes by without me listening out for your shipping area Alan, Fair Isle. Today it is forecast "Westerly, severe gale force 9 continuing...." Roll on summer!

As good a thread as any other for this: To all those who attach importance to this particular way of measuring the passage of time: Happy New Year; may 2015 be all you wish of it.

This morning (1st Jan.) I woke up with a question: shouldn't each new year start on the winter solstice for us Humanists?
However, I concede it would be challenging considering that we are a minority.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

I had the same idea after posting my last. At least the Solstice is a "natural" point in time so far as we are concerned, not some arbitrarily picked one.Gottard wrote:This morning (1st Jan.) I woke up with a question: shouldn't each new year start on the winter solstice for us Humanists?

OK, designs for "Happy Humanist New Year" cards?

May I put in a bid for perihelion instead, please? Part of the reason is that we can doubly save money: (#1) turn all the lights out and watch the natural fireworks instead of (#2) burning loads of money.

Happy Solstice good folk
I saw pics of Stonehenge this morning and most of the folk had their phones in the air. I thought that so sad, missing out on the wonder of the moment.
