Did you not swelter for a few days in that part of the kingdom?

We had a mini heatwave here in Birmingham. Temp reached 25 C last Friday and it stayed like that till Wednesday. Then all of a sudden, the winds picked up, changed direction,(westerley, not southerly) and yesterday evening the temp dropped to 8 C. We put our central heating on for the first time. Woke up this morning to a massive pile of leaves in the road in front of our house. there were hardly any there yesterday.

It seems so long ago. We had very strong winds yesterday- autumn has arrived all at once.

The wind is getting up, the doors are ratling a bit, there may be some waves crashing on the rocks near the beach so I may go for a walk later, one of the pleasures of living in cornwall

Yesterday - cold and with gale force wind and rain and hail.
Today - pleasant and calm with bright sunshine all the time.

The wind is getting up
Has it been in bed then? Yes, it was whistling a little here yesterday, but the sun was shining (as it is at this moment) so that's not so bad. Hoping this keeps up until this evening because

It's blowing a gale here and the five day forecast is for more of the same.

THanks, Alan - still shinyish here, wind about 3 on the Beaufort scale (I used to be weather monitor at school).

Happy birthday, Dave! And enjoy it regardless of the weather!

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Thanks, Alan - I did! The rain stopped long enough for us to walk to the restaurant, fell again whilst we ate, then stopped for the walk back to the bus stop!

Meal was as good as expected and, since I chatted with mine host about Cyprus (where he was from) and Carol had let on that it was my birthday he treated me to the brandy! I still reckon Metaxa brandy is better than any France one I have tried. It has an almost flowery and slightly spicy flavour and is as smooth as silk.

Need to go on a diet for a week now . . . But worth it.

Thanks, Gottard!

Them there mountains maketh their own weather! I remember the fluffy little cloud on top of Snowdon that was a blizzard by the time we got there! And by comparison with the Alps that's only a foot-hill.

Awoke this morning to brilliant sunshine and warm temp of 14C. That was at 6am. The high today is supposed to be 26C!!! It's autumn somewhere in the world.

Belated Happy Birthday, Dave B

I'm just back from a long weekend in NY state and city. Endless blue skies and between 23 and 26C every day. I even kayaked on the St Lawrence *smug emoticon*. Flying back through Heathrow this morning the UK was solid cloud cover until just south of Aberdeen. But it's jolly chilly... around 6C...brr...
