Have you ever?
Have you ever?
Have you ever tried googling your own name? I did it around nine months ago and a guy in Bournemouth came out top of the pile (I only have one cousin in the UK, and she is in Bournemouth, but different surname, Coincidence.) I just tried it again, and the guy in Bournemouth is still top, but No7 on the first page links to TH through my name Amazing! Or what? I am well chuffed.

Re: Have you ever?
Yes, I have googled my own name. My first name is very common and my last name is not uncommon, so there are lots of people with my name. (If you visit the Wikipedia page listing my name, it's a disambiguation page with six entries! None of them are about me...yet.) My website, which is my name, is buried many pages down if you search my name!
Re: Have you ever?
Same with me, and the first time I googled it, there were thousands of "hits" and I couldn't find me anywhere among them, but now I come out near the top under the guize of thinkhumanism, and I think that's coolZatarra

Re: Have you ever?
Yes - and I have just done it again (ie John Bosley), but as Bosley was an icon in Charlie's Angels....... However you may the like the letter below which appeared in an NSS newsletter.
From John Bosley:
In 2000, I wrote to the Bishop of St Albans (having no reply from the Rector of Stevenage) saying that I wished to have my baptism (in 1937) removed and my name removed not only from the parish records but more particularly from the ‘membership list’ of the Church of England. I said that I was unhappy to be still technically a member and I wished to ‘resign from the club’.
Eventually, I was informed that I was not counted as a member as their statistics were based annually on up-to-date parish records. As to my baptism, this was a bit like getting an ‘O’ level and it could not be ‘undone’. I had to smile.

Re: Have you ever?
I've just tried it. The Google search suggested 'nick burton rare', which I quite liked (nothing to do with me though), but the first entry in the search results reads:
(Other than that?) I'm not mentioned on the first 10 pages of search results.
The shopping results do list "pub walks for motorists" though...
Last week I attended Nick Burton's funeral which was held in the beautiful old church at Preston, just a couple of miles from Wingham.....

I've done it. And as far as I can see I'm the only Jax Agnesson on the planet!
Re: Have you ever?
I have the same name as a well-known Canadian journalist who has a wiki entry.
Re: Have you ever?
It's always a bit of fun to see who shares your name. Today I have a bird photographer, an author who writes about the American War of Independence, various Bebo and Facebook entries, various genealogical entries and so on.
About twelve years ago I was a member of the management group of an educational project for the Scottish Eduucation Department. My role was pretty minor and the report of the project was distributed to schools in hard copy. However, there was also a *.pdf version on the Scottish Office website. My name appeared on the last page of this pretty lengthy document and a few years ago Google found it. Yes, Alan, it is scary.
I just tried adding 'humanism' to the search terms and got nothing but when I gave my user name plus 'humanism' it took me straight to TH in 0.16 seconds. Pretty impressive.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Most of the Maria MacLachlan links are to me but I want everyone to know that this profile, which is the first hit, is NOT me. In fact, it's hardly possible to be less like me than this other Maria MacLachlan is!

When I google me name (Mary McCusker) it's an obscure american actress who was in a couple of the old Star Trek episodes, that comes up.
Give quiche a chance.
Re: Have you ever?
Yes. I'm please I don't find myself, but some singer (American if I remember correctly) with a different middle name.
Re: Have you ever?
The title of this thread did make me think it was going to be some kind of game asking if people had participated in unusual activities.

I don't know, probably mildly controversial as it sounds like on of those drinking games (not that I've played any, or have any desire to).Alan H wrote:What sort of 'unusual activities' did you have in mind?wizzy wrote:The title of this thread did make me think it was going to be some kind of game asking if people had participated in unusual activities.

Re: Have you ever?
When I Google my name the top link leads to some unknown West Midlands singer who hasn't updated his site since 2002.

Re: Have you ever?
Having joined facebook, I found someone of the same name as me living in Australia and now we're friends. How sad is that?
Re: Have you ever?
Would that be a MacLachlan? Or a Henness?
No matter, I don't think it's sad at all.
Just be careful it's not some big hairy "bush tucka fella" with an ulterior motive

Re: Have you ever?
I have Googled my own name, and could be anyone of the following
- A homophobic Australian MP (oh the irony)
- An estate agent (an unenviable job in the current economic climate)
- A professor at the University of York
OR
With a slight misspelling of my name, a very famous British author.
