Obviously I chose mine because it looks exactly like me - so much so that some people think it is me (30 years ago and in fancy dress, of course).
Why did you choose yours?

No more than 10 years ago, surely?Maria wrote:(30 years ago and in fancy dress, of course)
Mine just shows the inner workings of my brain...
At present mine is the sunset over Blackbeard Sailing Club on the Neuse River near new Bern in North Carolina where my brother keeps his boat. I have sailed with him a couple of times in NC. The pic was taken at Easter time in 2006. We had a week on the water and anchored in the inlet on the last night when we had this fab sunset. In the full size version you can see the masts of the yachts. Somewhere I have a genuine Carolina Moon taken at Ocracoke on the outer Banks so I might change it one of these days.

Sorted. avarist.com doesn't allow you to link to images direct - you're supposed to save them to your pc. I saved and uploaded it to photobucket and it is now visible.
I chose the admin avatar because it looks pretty. No idea where it is.

I hate my avatar! I picked it because there was some kind of party (Humanism Party iirc) going on in here and somebody made a comment about hiding under a kilt. I immediately rushed off to find an avatar of somebody who looked as if they might be wearing a kilt just so I could make a crack about sensing movement under my kilt.
Pathetic, isn't it?
But now I keep getting comments about it so I feel bound to keep it, otherwise their posts won't make sense.

That's pretty funny, PH, but if you really don't like your avatar, for goodness sake change it. I'm sure it will be appreciated.
I've only just added an avatar because this thread reminded me to do so. There is no particular explanation for it - I went to an avatar site and picked the first one that appealed because it's cute and pics that move always delight me.

If you don't recognise mine - it is Hobbes from "Calvin and Hobbes" - a comic strip written by Bill Watterson which I think is one of the best comic strips in existence. For those of you who don't know it, here are two of my favourite strips:

I was thinking about using Tank Girl, because I love Jamie Hewlitt's drawings, but she's a bit violent which is nothing like me - I'm a real pacifist, but I really loved her attitude in my old punk days This is TG here:
