How the Catholics.............

#1 Post by Alan C. » April 29th, 2009, 5:11 pm

How the Catholics contrive to make new "Saints".
John Sullivan, 69, a deacon and Plymouth district court clerk magistrate, claims the cure for his crippling spinal disorder came as a result of his prayers to Newman in 2001 after an unsuccessful back surgery.
It begs the question, why was he praying to a mere (dead) Cardinal? Was it Gods day off?

<bad pun coming>

Was he praying to Newman to make a new man of him?

</bad pun>

Just wait though, within the next few billion visits to Lourdes, the odds are that an invalid will make a truly remarkable recovery.
Just imagine what the Vatican will claim then.

How the catholics..............contrive to control freedom of speech
I had to do a double take when I read this:
http://www.independent.ie/national-news ... 24069.html
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/fro ... 99892.html
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern proposes to insert a new section into the Defamation Bill, stating: “A person who publishes or utters blasphemous matter shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction on indictment to a fine not exceeding €100,000.”
“Blasphemous matter” is defined as matter “that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion; and he or she intends, by the publication of the matter concerned, to cause such outrage.”
Thank goodness this is not in Blighty - they would have a party with my bookshelves....

It doesn't seem to have occurred to Catholics to canonize Louis Pasteur, who was a believing Catholic and was instrumental (genuinely!) in curing and preventing illnesses in millions of people.

Yes, but he used science, not faith...no miracles required.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?
