The Spider's Banquet

Sticking with the highbrow theme, this is what I say from the Mikado when in need of retail therapy.

Got an anagram for us, Nick, or is it buried in the clue like in a crossword?

knowing Nick's political views, and if the words had been 6,4 instead of the reverse, I would guess "danger zone"

It's a cryptic clue. And much more of a pinko hue than animist suggests...!

you haven't really answered Athena's query, but I assume that there is a lexical (rather than semantic) clue in the fact that it begins "O"?

I thought I had! It is not an anagram in this instance (and consequently, probably in the wrong thread....)

Lexical and semantic are rather big words for me, but if I understand you, yes, the whole thing is important. But I'll give you a steer: It is "0?" ,not "O?", and certainly not " "O"? "

Clear as mud, now! :D

Yup. Don't look back in anger.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

so this is pure descramble and no clue? Without any semantic hint, it will be tough to guess a sequence of words from the letters provided, plus the number of letters in each word (Nick - this is what I meant by "lexical") which is "meaningful" in the ordinary sense of the word, eg a common saying, or title of something. There must be millions plus of such sequences which COULD have a meaning for someone in some situation, but I don't think that Descramble is about these possibilities, and this seemed to be established early on in the thread in the dialogue between Tetenterre and Dave B

Well, that's one interpretation, but quite wrong... :D

so do I take it that the anagram is also a cryptic clue? As Athena said, this is standard in crossword puzzles

Stop being deliberately obtuse, Alan.

This is the clue:"I'm not helping you with this."

It certainly hasn't helped me much so far.
