whether it is "right" depends on whether this one is indeed "just" a toughie (I haven't got it either) or whether there is actually no connexion and you're doing something else. I'm sure it is the former, it's just that "turnip" does not suggest much to me (I assume it can't be "root", "vegetable", "Mr" (too long ago unless you remember "Whirligig") - anyway, these ain't "Down".
Getreal, are you a farmer? Might explain your username

Er, "turn down" and "turnip" have vague connections, bit too vague, getreal!

In answer to "up" and "crier" one can have "up town" and "town crier" - so the linking word was "town" as offered by LL, that wisest of chimps.

So, having solved that should LL have offered a new pair of words to which the next contestant has to furnish the link and a further two pair, animist?

I would vote 'yes' because otherwise this game will be too difficult for me. Actually it may be already.

no, as usual chimps beat humans, and LL was quite right to base the next jump on the link to the previous question - "down" links "town" and "turn", and getreal got this! I think it is just that her own jump is a biggie

OooooKkkkkkk

So getreal found "down" as a link and added "turnip"; so now we have to find a word that links these two and then add a new one that forms the new pair to be linked?

This is making my brain hurt!Image

Sorry, guys, I completely misunderstood the game. Should have read the rest of the thread!

Is the answer garden, marian?

(I have no answer for turnip. I thought that was the point of the game!! Doh!!)

well, haven't I given two words? "black" (my answer to your pair) and another one - "post" - which is linked to black by the new mystery word

Hang on, it stills seems confusing: take getreal's "mail & "blue" then we need "mail (something)" and "(something) blue" do we not where the "something"s are the same word?

So, with Marian's offering that gives us: "mail box" (OK) and "box blue" - er, what's a "box blue"? Then we are given "pin" - so the new pair is "box" and "pin".

To carry on we need a word to follow "box" and go before "pin" to make two valid phrases . . .

Er, think I'll stay with the other word games :D

Marian - did you mean that "box" and "blue" are connected? Must admit that, like Dave, I can't see the connection. Must also admit that everyone's confusion is more fun than the game itself! :hilarity:
