The hooker wouldn't work without oxygen, but if they put too much O in the club wouldn't it explode? H&S issue of gargantuan proportions I'd have thought...

I don't think the club constitutes what is considered a high risk contained environment; I think that applies to fermentation vats etc.

Don't you have bingo callers in Canuck land?

Yeah, we got bingo callers. What else do you think we do when it snows and motorcycles are put away?? :)

Just never heard the term before. Does this tell me a lot about your extra-curricular activities? :)

I played bingo once in my life, at a fun fair and won a fluffy doll! Gave that to a girl who was passing. That was about 1964 I think.

Never mind, ludders, I am sure you will find a refuge to your liking (well, after a couple or five pints anyway!) Did you have any regulars you drank with?

822 Acording to the latet inteligence the pud owners wanted to put the rent up through the roof and said that if the landlord didnt like it they had someone else lined up so he just moved out. There will probably be a new landlord soon and he will stick the prices up to pay the extra rent. The owners have done this before with another pub near by.
I like proper local pubs the beer is usually better and as the customers are usually lacal there usualy isnt any trouble.

Why is it that landlords......in general, not just of pubs.................see themselves as a breed apart?

"Oh, there's a world-wide recession on, no-one's making any money, all my tenants' takings are down drastically. Well, I know what to do. I'll whack their rents up, that'll help them get through this terrible time."

It's the old case of screwing the market until it starts losing them money. City councils do it via rents on the shops they own and local business tax. That's one of the reasons Gloucester is dying at the core.

For some strange reason it seems to be able to support seven sports and outdoor shops (but a sports and outdoor hyper-market has recently opened - the old B&Q with cheap prices, a massive range, easy access and a huge car-park to attract the customers.) 12 charity shops at last count, two pound shops, four "gift" shops (like mushrooms, appear over night on temporary leases). Plus four Tescos, one Sainsbury's, one Morrisons (maybe another soon) and one Asda within the city boundaries.

Went for a bus ride to Stroud today. When I left there in 1991 it was dying, rents and rates too high, to many new shops being built, old ones closing up (like Gloucs). It seems to have recovered and I was pleasantly surprised to find most of the interesting old shops had survived. Perhaps there is hope for Gloucs even yet! Many of old shops are now coffee bars and sarnie shops of some kind.
