All I meant was, when I got a fluke he would say, "That's a jammy ball you got there!"
No-one else used "jammy" for "lucky" then?

Language is weird. I had a rather unpleasant image of red jam covered testicles, despite knowing that jammy means lucky.

871 - Alfred became king of the Saxons.
He should not have, he was the fourth, and most scholarly, son but all of his brothers died before him. This may be considered A Good Thing, as Alfred the Great he laid the basis for the English nation and left two children, Edward and Aethelflaed, who continued his work.

Represents my house in several ways. The digits add up to the house number and there are words on page 872 of my dictionary that are relevant :-
junk - contents of my 'den'
jungle - description of the garden
jumper - what I wear when watching 'The Killing' -
Jungermanniiales - plants which I am sure I do not have in my garden.
...and at this juncture, I think I need another cup of tea.

Re: Our countup thread
875 is a homo sapiens gene and I am so glad that I discovered this:-
The protein encoded by this gene acts as a homotetramer to catalyze the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine, the first step in the transsulfuration pathway. The encoded protein is allosterically activated by adenosyl-methionine and uses pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. Defects in this gene can cause cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD), which can lead to homocystinuria. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
What would we do without google and wiki ?

page 878 of Chambers dict has katakana a two syllabic writing system in Japan.
This reminds me that my goldfish, named Jojo, speaks with only 2 syllable words (or phrases)
'Hello jaywhat'
'Hya jojo'
'jaywhat happy?'
'sort-of jojo'
'me-am as-well'

880 I don't speak to Jaywhat's goldfish. Somebody has to. And with living nearer than me, I suppose it makes sense that Jaywhay ought to do it.

[Hang on, I got it wrong: jaywhat's goldfish talks to him . . . . . . . . oo-even more-er!]
Er, jaywhat, do you keep this, er, goldfish in a tank or a cage? Does it has feathers or scales (ignoring that they are really the same thing)? Couldn't really be a yellow budgie by any chance could it? My friend's got a sort of chubby goldfish with big lateral fins that does looks a bit like a budgie I have to admit, but it keeps stum (except for blowing bubbles at tea time.)

Jojo is in the pond outside and does not say much this time of year - in fact, I have not seen jojo for quite a while. Mind you I have not been by the pond musing lately. You have to muse.
