Evolution, Creationism, Xianity; what teachers need to know

#1 Post by Paul Braterman » June 14th, 2015, 12:00 pm

Evolution, Creationism, and Christianity; what teachers need to know https://paulbraterman.wordpress.com/201 ... d-to-know/

Outline of suggested teaching materials; suggestions and comments invited.

I team up with a geologist historian CofE vicar to argue that teachers need to know (a) basis arguments for evolution, (b) that Genesis is written from the viewpoint of 6th century BCE Babylonian flat-earth cosmology, (c) that mainstream Christianity had accepted (and prominent churchmen had helped establish) the facts of the geological column and an ancient Earth by mid-19th century, and had accepted evolution by 1900.

We want to help non-specialist teachers, eg religious education or general studies teachers, and primary school teachers, to deal with evolution and to see the "objections" in perspective.

Good work.
