EU will PAY: Brexiteer explains how £40bn Brexit bills is LEVERAGE to turn screws on EU

THE UK should get the European Union "to blink first" and have them agree to a Brexit deal by making Brussels understand no agreement could cost them the £40bn Brexit bill, Brexiteer MP Sir Desmond Swayne said.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

coffee, the £40 billion is relative peanuts to the EU. It is a rule-based legalistic organisation which simply worked out what Britain rightfully owed as a result of its decision to leave; the exit bill is not something over which it will blink. The divisions in the UK Government indicate that most of our leaders know this, though they have to pretend otherwise to keep up morale, but the EU knows everything that goes on in Westminster and is prepared in principle for no deal. Ports on the other side of the Channel are preparing for the practical logistical problems of no deal, and EU companies are beginning to cut out British manufactures of components for cars and aircraft. Can you not see that Britain will be humiliated in a few months whether or not some sort of Brexit occurs?

the comment below makes it clear that the costs would in fact be £13.6 billion, and this is anyway deserving of concern and coverage, surely

DELUSIONAL: The EU could be set to demand open borders in return for a trade deal.

It’s a non-starter. If this is how Brussels wants to behave, May should walk away!

ROFL! That'll do wonders for the UK's reputation when it comes to negotiating all those trade deals it will need!

what bullying? Asking for solutions to genuine problems? The divorce bill is about the only thing which has been agreed, and attempting to start over again on this, as Duncan Smith is suggesting, will not paralyse the EU (which will make arrangements to get more funds from the other 27 members, plus pulling in its horns) but instead put Britain in a very dangerous position as an untrustworthy potential partner
