I thought we needed a place to put more serious science videos that don't really fit in the Fun Science Videos thread.
The following video was shown yesterday at the Science Online 2010 Conference I was at on Friday and Saturday.
This is amazing.
Mike Robbins suffers from Parkinsons Disease. He explains how a pacemaker implanted into his brain a surgical technique called deep brain stimulation (DBS) can help to control his symptoms.
The power of science.

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:
1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

That is fantastic, Alan.
I saw something about this some months ago when I was trawling for info on ICDs and pacemakers - the technology is an offshoot of that. But I did not realise that it had got to that level.
That is a life altering, improving, achievement for sufferers!
IIRC there are also possibilities for the treatment of depression and other mental conditions.
My hat goes off to those working in this field, it is technology that saves and improves life.

Absolutely. It must be difficult to even begin to understand the difference that must make to that man's life.

Brilliant Alan!
God couldn't/wouldn't fix him so science did.

Indeed. I've bookmarked that to share with folk who doubt science has any answers

Re Parkinsons, Michael J. Fox wrote a book about his experiences in "Lucky Man", and in it he describes the operation which took place with him fully aware. Worth a read.

Great video of the treatment of Parkinson's. Val, you mentioned Micheal J Fox (Yay, he's Canadian). I wonder if qualifies for this treatment? I'll have to check out that book.

Marian, Michael J Fox describes in detail the operation on his brain. It is well worth the read.
I also liked the bit about spending his dad's relocation money.

Can't watch the content again. Must be something we Canadians already know about what with living in the frozen tundra...

You are not the only one Marian; must be because the altitude of my place towers over the electro-magnetic field
On a serious note BBC shows a message:you apparently are outside the UK.

I'm glad they told us that, otherwise, I'd never have suspected.

Though how the guy can say he's Catholic after all mystifies me
Is the Pope a Catholic?
He accepts evolution as a fact.

Excellent clip, Nock, bookmarked.
I also wonder how a Catholic can accept the division that must exist in that man's mind, but let's be thankful that he is realistic enough to see the facts for what they appear to be.

Who is this Nock of whom you speak?
He was maybe a
