BTW, the rug sold for $9650 at auction!

There are three fundamental questions for anyone advocating Brexit:

1. What, precisely, are the significant and tangible benefits of leaving the EU?
2. What damage to the UK and its citizens is an acceptable price to pay for those benefits?
3. Which ruling of the ECJ is most persuasive of the need to leave its jurisdiction?

Very old post but I thought I would comment.

Actually, this had to do with the conversion of people who were atheists into religious believer. Because this happened the claim was made that god exists and there are no atheists.

The rest of the usage is mostly a mangled reinterpretation.

Frankly, if you are being shelled and can't run I think you can be forgiven for entertaining a few irrational thoughts. Never mind the effects of shell shock. PTSD. When brain chemistry gets scrambled you can be forgiven for believing anything. Short or long term.

OT, Old post. So much interesting stuff. I feel like a kid in a candy store.

As one who has been in a sort of "medical foxhole", knowingly on the edge of death, there was no thought of the supernatural at all. Any "prayers" were of the nature of a strongly expressed wish that this was not the time for my termination! I have also been in the unfortunate position of hanging off a rock climb by one hand and the tiniest of toe holds. RAF service, caving, climbing and severe cardiac illness have been my training ground in this!

"Shell shock" is a psychological condition usually induced by an "overload" of stimuli over a period - PTSD can be caused by a single event if it is horrific enough in my understanding.

Both responses are very individual and depend on basic psyche type and those prone may also be prone to dependency on some kind of external support - like a church group. Otherwise, yes, you will pray for anything that might have the slightest chance of offering "salvation", however irrational, if the situation is bad enough.

Strangely many, including myself, often offer prayers to excreta in such circumstances - "O SHIT, get me out of here!"
