Re: What can we learn from famines?

Mostly it was all new to them. They had no clue how to plan for 7 years. The planning durations were too long. Who plans farm productivity that far out. They force it on to the farming collectives. So they failed to plan correctly and had no way to correct things. They forced unrealistic production ...

Re: What do you know about theology?

When answering the question I used the same language that I had heard as a child or as close as I could remember. Lots of terms I had heard before. Not sure how I scored to be honest. One set of questions that I have no idea about I looked up. I put 'I had no idea' into the survey. Obscure reference...

Re: What do you know about theology?

I think the argument could be made that we understand the bible all to well. I have to start tagging stuff when I use Irony. add or not at all. ISTM that the questions asked were wrong: they weren't so much about the bible, but about how (some) xtians now interpret it to suit their beliefs. We use ...

Re: What do you know about theology?

A little more context about the survey. I asked one of the researchers. This is separate from what I do. I'm in psychology, but this study/survey we have created is specifically for atheists and Christians. The claim is that atheists leave Christianity because they don't understand the Bible (theolo...

Re: Antihumanist, what does that mean?

Someone here keeps posting stuff that give me at least one good belly laugh every day. I love seeing a board that is actually interesting to read for content rather then intent. Places where every other post starts with a four-letter explicative or where attacks on characters are the rule rather tha...

Re: What do you know about theology?

:laughter: Lucky me I get to do part two of the survey. Thank you for participating. Here is part two, a longer survey, so prepare! We are looking to publish these, so please answer to the best of your knowledge: https://surveyplanet.com/569c41327ded0a752f3b5d3f I think this is an attempt at humor. ...

Re: What can we learn from famines?

I fell into one of my traps thinking everyone has a working familiarity with Stalin and Mao. Thanks for pointing that out Compassionist. I had a chance to educate and sort of missed the mark.

Thanks to everyone else for filling in and providing some context for my statement.

Re: Antihumanist, what does that mean?

Yup it is very easy to fall pray to helping more than is required. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for life. When teaching him to fish don't do the fishing for him. Just to show him how good a fisherman you are. :) Stand at his shoulder. Guide him...

Re: What can we learn from famines?

That ever famine in modern time could have been prevented. That once it was happening people can need help. Often our political systems are too slow or disinterested. That famine has been used as a tool for ethnic cleansing. That communists countries in the past seemed to be very good at coming up w...

Re: What do you know about theology?

Oh ok I see. Slow mind on my part. I do eventually get it.

Not knowing what the study is about and having time on my hands ... Nah it the study of something irrational

How much I might know about the subject is silly and pointless. Entertaining maybe. If your bored and having nothing else to do.

Antihumanist, what does that mean?

This is long. For that I apologise ahead of time. Let see. A little context. I am 57 years old and single. Religious trauma is as good a spot as any to start. It was when I was six. The local Catholic priest told me that I would go to hell and spend forever at the end of a pitchfork if I did not obe...

Re: Abolish ‘faith’ schools

So it comes down to the fact that they don't want to do the work. Governance is not easy. It is a lot of hard work. Only folks with a passionate need would want to do the work. We were lucky. Trudo helped lead us through this minefield. Well, we had good material to start with. The failure that we s...

Re: Abolish ‘faith’ schools

Ok. So what were they planning to put in place? Your welcome to borrow ours. Younger but really. That seems like rather radical ... well ok we just changed our government so ya I might have seen it happen under Harper. The Tories seem damned sure it needs to go, yet can't quite say what it is wrong...

Re: 2016 US election

http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/03/politics/donald-trump-nobel-peace-prize/ And yes someone did nominate Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize. I had to check. Guess it really comes down to who you know. He makes my teeth itch. Nice timing. Snowden was at the top of the list. Not sure where Trump was but I think...

Re: Abolish ‘faith’ schools

Oh my. Not sure if I should laugh or cry. Well, it's a good indication that the democratic process sort of works. I will have to read the details to see what is driving the change. Here it appears to be the catholic church. The government keeps having to make up rules to allow folks to attend these ...
