Re: What would you do?

Would you prevent the death of Hitler, Pol Pot, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi or Sadam Hussain?

Re: Funerals

A funeral is for the friends and relatives of the deceased. Some people may not want to be reminded of their mortality or they may not have liked the deceased or his/her friends and family - or he/she may just find them dreary and depressing. Or too religious. or not religious enough... Each to his ...

Re: Everything is Connected -- Here's How: | Tom Chi | TEDxTaipei

Not sure what his point was, Compassionist. He seemed to want to shoehorn religion in because some religions sometimes say some things that are analogous to our knowledge of the universe.

Re: Science and spirituality: Jeff Lieberman at TEDxCambridge 2011

Not sure what his point was - it sounded mostly like gobbledegook pseudo science. You may find this discussion of a quote from Einstein he used interesting: Einstein’s Misquote on the Illusion of Feeling Separate from the Whole – Thy Mind, O Human . There are some pretty dubious TED talks but you ha...

Re: The most important lesson from 83,000 brain scans | Daniel Amen | TEDxOrangeCoast

Interesting, but the page on Wikipedia on him has some criticism: Amen has built a profitable business around the use of SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) imaging for purported diagnostic purposes.[6] His marketing of SPECT scans and much of what he says about the brain and health i...

Re: We need a UK Constitutional Convention Sign Now

Not convinced that would solve anything. Brexit has shown us that ordinary citizens generally haven't a clue about the EU or how business and trade operates - mind you, neither do many MPs.

Re: Are you a vegan? If not, why not?

I only ever wear 'proper' shoes at funerals - I currently have a pair from Vegetarian Shows in Brighton. They're not great but fine for occasional use - trainers do me the rest of the time but finding decent pairs of non-leather trainers can be difficult and they keep changing but I can usually find...

Re: If you could prevent your existence, would you?

Life is what it is. We just have to make the most of it and make it the best we can for ourselves and for others. I'm not sure how helpful it is to dwell too long on paradoxes like this!

Re: Alex Salmond and atheists

I often hear this sort of argument here in the US, and then I remember that the mass majority of the prison population is that of people of faith while Christian. I think we need to be careful here: it could be that declaring yourself Christian in prison gets you special rights and privileges. What...

Re: Does consciousness exist outside the brain?

I like Joe's videos - he has a sense of humour that appeals to me! Hallucination can seem very real - vividly so - but there could be more parsimonious reasons for what you experienced. That doesn't detract from what you remember about it and should not stop you from being the good, kind person you ...

Re: Does consciousness exist outside the brain?

Pseudo religious BS. Fenwick believes that consciousness actually exists independently and outside of the brain as an inherent property of the universe itself like dark matter and dark energy or gravity. I not he doesn't cite any evidence - least of all from cosmologists or theoretical physicists, ...
