Re: Which newspaper do you read?
It depends on where I am because I travel all the time but it could be any or all of the following: Times, Guardian, Independent, Herald, Scotsman.

Guess where I am? Clue: it's not in Scotland but there is a place with the same name in Scotland.

Re: Can religious bullying be outlawed?
Interesting question. If by 'religious bullying' they simply mean telling a child s/he will burn in hell for all eternity if s/he does or doesn't do or say something, I think it would be impossible to legislate against. I'm sure most of us here agree it's a form a child abuse but as long as religion...

Humanism and Theism
This may be have been discussed here before, I can't remember. Here's my question:
Can humanists be theists or are the two mutually contradictory? I would have said they are but I've met people who disagree. How does being a theist fit into the humanist belief system?

Re: Humanism: Core beliefs and definitions
For example, the Florida Humanists use the definition: "Humanism is the applied study of what it means to be a good human being." Personally, I find this definition too deep. You really have to think about it and I'm sure anyone hearing it will immediately seek further clarification. What do other ...

Re: Freedom to not listen.
It's an interesting question. Do we have the freedom not to listen to canvassers who drive round neighbourhoods telling us how to vote at election time? I'm not sure what legislation covers this kind of thing and what such people are allowed to do but I'm sure if megaphones were used regularly in th...

Re: Is Richard Dawkins really God?
I think atheists are luck to have a spokesperson in Dawkins but I don't think of him as a guru. He sometimes gets it wrong - I mean in his presentation rather than content - and puts people's backs up. I agree it's sometimes embarrassing to hear about people 'falling at his feet' etc though I've nev...
