Re: Chimps 'feel death like humans

Though one does wonder why, if a) he came back and b) he then went on to a better place, Jesus made the "ultimate sacrifice" which was somehow more of a sacrifice than any mere mortal dying to save others or what have you . . . Put it this way, if someone told me that if I was tortured and crucifie...

Well unfortunately that means you'll have to stand in for that part, James :laughter:

Hah, me too. The emphasis some people put on the afterlife, one wonders why they don't go jump off a cliff - sorry, didn't say that :pointlaugh: Though one does wonder why, if a) he came back and b) he then went on to a better place, Jesus made the "ultimate sacrifice" which was somehow more of a sa...

Oh, I wish they hadn't apologised!!!

I hope everybody that civil servant knows, and a lot more s/he doesn't, writes to him/her to say well done.

I love the irony of just moving whoever it was to a different department . . . :pointlaugh: :hilarity:

Re: Act of God?

Poor chap - a nice insurance company would just pay up as he's lost his life whatever way it was! He's been paying in after all! I noticed on my company's contract with the Council that insurance and so on does not cover acts of God, which irked me a little. But perhaps that's because I think I'm th...

Re: Homeopathy

Did anybody realize it's " World Homeopathy Awareness Week " this week? ISTM they kept kind of quiet about it, given that it's theoretically an "awareness" week. I found out yesterday... and wrote this (as a parody to Tom Lehrer's National Brotherhood Week) :hilarity: :pointlaugh: :happyclappy: :no...

Vote for policies . . .

I found this site very interesting: http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/

See who you really support - it shows you the policies but not the parties (the BNP are obvious though).

I came out with 60% Green and 40% Lib Dem. Can't we reform the ballot boxes to do it this way?

Re: Dawkins and Hitchins planning to arrest the Pope!

You have a good point. But it is pretty cheering to a lot of people. It's nice to see somebody standing up to questionable and over-accepted authority - there are certainly people in the Vatican who should be arrested and our own government are too pathetic to try.

Dawkins and Hitchins planning to arrest the Pope!

This is brilliant! Obviously the likelihood of it working is, er, dubious, but . . . .

I was really hoping someone would give this a try. Random Twitterer has labelled it a "pointless, self-aggrandising gesture". But some gestures are well worthwhile :pointlaugh:

So does Marian, but she also builds crosses out of the variety of pogo stick pictured above, and sprinkles chocolate icing on her forehead on Ash Wednesday. Her form of religion comes in the extra sweet variety.

Sounds like some wonderful stuff is being done, what with wood and cooking and useful tea chests!
