Re: The failure of the BHA.

...Humanism has nothing to do with opposing religion or religious privilege... So it has nothing to do with morality? Good people should stand aside? That was essentially the misunderstanding that prompted Paul to start the thread and, hopefully, that has now been cleared up. It is the unnecessary ...

RE: Post 1102, Nick.. Thanks for your thoughtful replies, Nick. I'm afraid I still don't anticipate prospects post Brexit as you do. Hopefully London's financial markets will remain strong and things won't get very much worse than losing a fifth of the value (whatever the exchange rates at a given t...

Okay, so FGM causes worse pain and suffering and FGM is a much bigger scandal. Agreed, but not only can MGM be compared to FGM but MGM is abhorent in its own right, without regard or reference to FGM.

Positive Future = Positive Timeline + Unity Consciousness A key discovery promulgated in this paper is that (1) a critical mass of humanity is (2) co-creating a positive future, through conscious acknowledgement that (3) we are synergistically traveling along a positive timeline (4) in Unity conscio...

Re: The future of the NHS (if any)

This would be laughable if it wasn't so serious: GPs urged to commit to seven-day service or lose funding GPs in England must keep their surgeries open for longer to meet demand from patients, or risk losing funding, Downing Street has warned. It said many patients were going to under-pressure A&E ...

Re: What is morality? Where does it come from?

.. I believe that the principle source for morality is our conscience, That's an interesting way of putting it. I did a quick search for definitions of 'conscience'. "a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour." "the inner sense of what is right or wro...

Good grief. Thousands could have to swear an oath to "British values" under Tory plans Quote: It found that while Britain had benefited hugely from immigration and the increased ethnic and religious diversity it had brought, there had not been sufficient emphasis on integration. Unquote. I would li...

Re: Mortal or immortal

Interesting idea and may be useful. Different arguments probably impress different believers to varying extents, so an arsenal of arguments is good. However, I find getting them to define their god and explain their beliefs and reasons for them is what works best. They often hear the weakness and fl...

I try to speak properly and don't like the idea that people's bad language is my education. Jonny Eve's song voices my views... http://www.atheismuk.com/2012/03/31/atheism/yes-i-am-an-atheist/ But I don't think the language he uses helps the public perception of atheists in general, who seem to have...

...Of course, when the pound rises, and cuts jobs in export industries, we still get bleats. Greece has a nice stable exchange rate, and Ireland. For both it was catastrophic. Maybe matters are a bit more complicated..... I read different assessments. It wasn't the exchange rate that was their main...

From Jeremy Rodell On the question of freedom of speech, I've just come across a note I made during Peter Tatchell's speech on the subject to the BHA Conference in June. He said there should be only three limits to free speech: 1. False accusations. 2. Speech intended to threaten, menace or harrass...

Re: In or out?

"Thus a fall in the pound means that profits will be higher when denominated in sterling." Profits will not be higher, they may be the same. Profits made in other currencies will be given a higher £ value, each £ being worth so much less than before. Things generally within the UK (like property, or...
