Re: Abolish ‘faith’ schools

http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-catholics-fighting-renewed-push-for-single-publicly-funded-school-system It appears that Canada is moving towards eliminating the federal support and in effect make Catholic Schools a private school. I remember growing up and wondering why we had two...

Re: 2016 US election

The fact that he has supporters is scary. Global influence and in the antihumanist camp I think. Lots of people out there scared and looking for guidance. US population has a stagger rate of illiteracy for a developed country. Vulnerable. He would make a good dictator. Behold caesar, but without any...

Re: What do you know about theology?

I hope the data is used for good. :)

Re: Spirituality in Humanism

Its strength is the very thing that allowed for rational fear in our ancestors. The good part is that the humanist also draws strength from our rational fears and when a religious person behaves in a rational way they are humanist. Despite my understanding that belief in the supernatural, as an age...

Re: Once you've 'had' a deity .....

Well, it's the assertion that, when you are in a foxhole (ie taking cover in the heat of battle), you will be praying to God to save you. Quite why you would not be cussing God for creating such a godawful, disfunctional world I don't know..... Very old post but I thought I would comment. Actually,...

Re: Spirituality in Humanism

This question reminded me of research that showed Bonobos displaying empathic behaviour, and not just to other Bonobos. For social animals there are a whole range of complex behaviours that may be advantageous in different situations, and these of course may include empathy, caring, altruism and so...

Re: Spirituality in Humanism

Yes. Nature and nurture. I call them monkey rules. Things that in the past that allowed our ancestors to survive. With the growth of our intelligence, we needed to come to grips with scary things. The rules for a community forming the basis for this and the irrational fear, now expressed by our inte...
