Re: Game of Thrones

Keep watching, Tetenterre!

I like Tyrion. He has such charm, is bright and witty, but with a chunk of self destructiveness.

I've just read online that they will be shooting some of it in Macedonia for season 6. Maybe I'll apply to be an extra.

Aw! Give the guy a beak!

It's no more preposterous than Boris standing for leader of the Tories. At least Boris is entertaining- though I think he's more dangerous.

Re: Saudi Arabia, Free Raif Badawi

I had read that Saudi was currently chairing the UN Human Rights Council. I know they were interested, but I can't find out of they are . Frankly, I'm amazed they are even members.

Re: Game of Thrones

There are some very strong female characters, methought there has been some critisism of the use and threat of sexual violence to the extent of making most of the female characters victims. I think this is especially evident in the attempted rape of Brienne Who is supposed to be a warrior who is stro...

Re: Game of Thrones

You can see so many pararells- the wars between Scotland and England, the wars in Europe and the eternal Balkan wars. In later series they feather religious fanaticism and government utilising it to achieve their ends- reminds me of the history of the House of Saud. It's thought provoking stuff. I d...

Game of Thrones

Does anyone else watch this? I managed to avoid it till earlier this year, though my husband was an addict. I really don't like fantasy stuff or scifi, so I assumed this would be a non starter. But I was persuaded to watch the first episode of the first series and, 5 series later, my name is Getreal...

Dali Llama.

I'm not sure if he spells his title the same as the animal. Seems to me, the DL attracts adoring crowds in a similar way that mother Theresa did. He appeared in Glasgow a few years ago, and my daughter expressed an interest I. Going to hear him talk. She went to find more details of his visit and go...

Re: Cortisol and brain damage in children

I was at a seminar at the weekend given by Turid Rugaas a Norwegian dog trainer who has been at the forefront of understanding dog body langage and what she has called "calming signals". There is no doubt she has contributed in a very positive way to the understanding of dog behaviour. I ...

Re: Puzzles

My daughter said she had no problem with it whatsoever.

Interestingly, she's excellent at "word search" games and I remember mentioning this to her dyslexia tutor, who said it was not at all uncommon for people with dyslexia to be good at these. She did explain why, but I've forgotten.

Re: Retirement and pensions

I qhve a small pension from the scottish public pensions agency (NHS) which I started drawing around 5 years ago. I was under the impression the new changes did not reply to pensions like mine (public final salary schemes) but having done a quick search, I'm not so sure- or at least, I'm more confus...

Re: Grammer and phrases wot is irritating

I hate the use of "how" instead of "why". I was in Ayr on Friday and two young women, pushing a pram, approached the steps of the bank. "Ah, naw! How's it closed?" One remarked. I was very tempted to say "it is closed with a great big padlock" because it was. ...

Re: Breaking Bad

Just finnished watching the entire series. It is absolutly terrific. Best tv series I've ever seen. Feels Shakespearean!

I'd strongly recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to try to catch it. But beware! It's like crystal meth, it's highly addictive!

Re: Talk to Yourself

It's lovely having family to stay.really lovely. And I love them to bits. But it's just so nice when the house is all quiet and not full of clothes, toys and discarded shoes. It's ice being able to see the tv screen for a change. How do children get their hands so sicky? And I won't have to watch Fr...
