I have done some research and I can now conclude my findings...

Living may cause cancer. It is safer not to be born.

Re: Cancer and red and processed meat

I do struggle with health warnings/scares.
Is there anything that doesn't cause cancer, if eaten in sufficient quantities?

Re: Sharia law in the UK

Obviously these courts are a worry but the government needs to be careful that they don't drive them further underground.

Re: GAME ON!

The use of the HoL isn't right; but neither is bringing in poor bashing policies that were not mentioned in the manifesto and denied by Cameron before the election.

The nasty party have a clear majority but are now just proving why they cannot be trusted.

Re: The future of the NHS (if any)

A start, but even this doesn't tell the whole story: Jeremy Hunt 'misrepresented weekend deaths data' Unfortunately, this government and the likes of Hunt in particular wouldn't recognise evidence if they saw it; especially if it conflicts with their ingrained dogma. Mind you the other parties are ...

Re: The future of Israel

I agree with most of what you say, Thundril. I too believe Israel is a basket case that is only getting worse, I'm not sure I have a solution. The only thing I may criticise slightly is this... "You and I, and every other individual currently alive and capable of political engagement, is faced ...

Osborne is all for renationalisation – so long as the nation isn’t Britain What do we get for flogging our nuclear to China and France? £17bn of risk and not much benefit Steel yourself, for an unlikely source is about to spout a highly unfashionable idea. This week, George Osborne will come out fo...

Re: My child's school became an academy school - Concerned

Good morning! Not much to report really.. It was a very brief meeting and his teacher was really quite meek and mild - I broached the subject and she gave me the expected "it's really nothing to worry about" brush off so I had to persist a bit, explained that although I understand it's a ...

Nothing of even the slightest concern here: UK’s largest online pharmacy fined £130,000 for selling patients’ data to scammers . The ICO determined that, through a direct marketing company called Alchemy Direct Media (UK) Ltd, Pharmacy2U executives unlawfully and unfairly sold the personal data of ...

Re: My child's school became an academy school - Concerned

I haven't written to my MP, and it's not something I would ever have considered - Are they likely to respond ? I am always writing to my MP; they will reply. The answer you get may not be the answer you want but you are bringing the issue to their attention and you probably won't be the only one. A...

Re: The Future of the 'The future of the..(if any)' title-me

"The future of..." meme doesn't bother me, although it would be just as easy to have (say) an 'Education' or a 'Government' thread in which Nick could defend the Tories even if they were lining up teachers and shooting them

Do you mind me asking which Academy Group is running the school?
Also, have you written to your MP?

Re: The future of education (if any)

What do you mean when you say that state schools are not allowed to coach their kids? They are not allowed to practice 'past papers' i.e. get into the routine of doing the exams. Many of the questions are IQ Test type questions, e.g. "Dog is to puppy, cat is to ....". They cannot practice...
