My most recent book was The Invisible Wall by Harry Bernstein. Loved it! It's a memoir about his impoverished Jewish childhood in Stockport in the second decade of the last century. Brilliant at illustrating the barriers that religion and culture can erect between even people living in the same stre...

We eat a variety of meals for dinner in the evening. They tend to be heavily meat or fish based. I would eat more veggie meals if it was just down to me. I like going to veggie restaurants but have no particular prefence otherwise. I like the traditional Greek food that I grew up eating.

Secular religionists?

All over the web, I see people using the word 'secular' in all kinds of different ways. Sometimes I've seen people described as 'secular Jews' and I think I've seen secular pagans too. What does this mean? Can you get secular muslims and secular Christians too?

Yes, I think if only more people had read it, they might not have got so angry. I know one muslim who's never read it but has been told it insults islam and that's good enough for him. No need for him to read it and make up his own mind.

I'm not sure that I qualify as a fan. The first book of hers I read was 'Death in Cyprus' which I enjoyed but found a bit old fashioned. Far Pavilions is the only other book of hers I've read and I loved it. Couldn't put it down!

My holiday this year - I am going to Devon on Sunday (and dragging my wife with me) to see/look after my mother for a week and be told off because my hair is too long/short, I should not sit at the table with my arms tightly folded, its time I stopped biting my nails and I drive too fast/slow. I am...

This thread cracks me up! Could anything do this? I mean, in this scientific age anything that happens gets closely examined by science until a suitable explanation is given. We are no longer like earlier eras when a solar eclipse would do. I'm pretty suer anything that god could come up with could ...

I personally don't agree with them, but I refuse to simply assume pro-lifers are of the religious fanatic variety (and I'm not saying this is what anyone else is doing). I find the pro-life argument is actually not very easy to handle.

I have met many non believers who are virulently anti abortion.
