TT: I have been reading about asteroids. It would seem to be a matter of "when" not "if" a major centre will be hit by a large asteroid. We humans may still go the way of the dinosaurs!

Re: There really is no need for loneliness

Pantsy Autism is not a spoiled crying baby nor the result of ineffective parenting. You cannot simply change the definition of a disorder to suit your arguments. If you have actual research to support your hypothesis, then let's see it. But first, please familiarize yourself with current research an...

Re: There really is no need for loneliness

Loneliness is a symptom of autism and autism is the addiction to power? Give me a break. Without even beginning to address this nonsense, please explain the severe autism of a young child who knows neither power nor loneliness? When you are finished ranting about that, explain how an elderly widow, ...

Re: Do you ever go to church?

Alan, I am glad you heard Nate's talk. His story is awe inspiring in its evidence of the resilience of the human spirit. His gentle demeanor and gigantic presence seem to contradict each other!

Their loving God listens to their prayers re: winning a game (50% of the time? LOL) but allows
5 000 000 children a year, world wide, to die of hunger related deaths. Nice guy, that god.

Mmnndd

Perhaps you could try reading "A universe from Nothing" by Lawrence Krauss. If reading something other than your bible, or books about said bible, is not of interest, you could listen to his lecture on the topic.

Re: Why I do NOT “believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution"

Thanks Altfish. Your explanation was better than mine I have been looking for a chart that explains fully the difference between the meaning of the word "theory" in a scientific context as opposed to the general meaning of the word in everyday language. It seems to have disappeared from my files

Re: Why I do NOT “believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution"

Animist The Theory of Evolution is, indeed, a scientific theory (different from the general use of the word "theory") supported by the fossil records, geological records and DNA. It is not, in any way, in doubt. There is not one item of evidence to falsify this theory and Paul has used the term prop...

Re: Weather - or not!

Wow Dave. What an experience! Funny but dangerous. We do not get that much snow here on the prairies. But, this Winter has been dreadful. By mid-December we had had more storms with more snow than in 112 years. Then came the bitter cold. The local little ski hill usually needs to close about 7 days ...

Re: Weather - or not!

It has been brutally cold here for about 10 days. -33°C last week-end. Yesterday my daughter and I were sitting and chatting before supper when a noise, that sounded like a gigantic crate being dragged on gravel, shook the house. The two of us ran around checking everywhere outdoors and down in the ...

Compassionist, Glad to be of help! :D If you get the time, another good one with some interesting sections on biblical discrepancies is Dan Barker's Godless: How an evangelical preacher became one of America's leading Atheists. Lots of good stuff in there. Sure, I will have a look at that book, too...

A while back, I attended a CFI lecture by Dr. Cami Ryan on GMO's. She injected a wee bit of sanity into the GMO debate which currently seems over-run by celebrities and fear-mongers. I am attaching a link to her site which addresses many topics on the issue.

Re: Humanists having or not having children

Compo I neglected to mention that I was married to a Catholic and my children went to Catholic school...it didn't take! And me? i lived in a convent boarding school for 3 yrs in my teens and, although I thought it was all hogwash, I was active in the church in support of my husband's beliefs. Talk a...
