Last episode of Heartbeat

Was I mistaken when watching Heartbeat the other night? There was a scene with Oscar Blaketon filmed in front of Scripp's Garage; while he was talking the Grim Reaper walked behind him. My son says he saw it too, but my wife, who was knitting, claims we are making it up. Well, did the dark one walk ...

Re: Battle lines drawn

I seem to have doubled up on my replies somehow. I posted this in the thread on going to church but it's relevant here. It's an independent school. Years ago it had a very strong Roman Catholic slant, though in recent years this has eased and no particular religious affiliation is claimed. There is ...

Re: Do you ever go to church?

I am certainly standing firm. Just occasionally however I'd like a day where someone doesn't try to convert me. They'd soon get pissed off if I arrived in school every day with evidence to dispute what they believe in. I respect their right to believe what they wish, I think they're wrong, but I wis...

Re: Explain your avatar

My avatar is an English longbowman. One of my hobbies is archery and I particularly shoot English longbow. Did the Robin Hood theme music just pop into anyone else's head when they read that? For me it was the original TV series theme, then the Clanadd version. I thought we didn't believe in mythic...

Re: Do you ever go to church?

Occasionally... I will attend weddings, funerals etc but will not sing, pray, kneel etc. I kneel to no one! Unfortunately as a teacher I am asked to attend harvest festivals, carol services and so on. I don't really object, except I object to the assumption by colleagues and management that I will ...

Re: Why did you choose your particular user name?

Yes cubic centimetres...only the Yanks measure engine capacities in cubic inches!

Messing about with cars keeps me out of the pub... and I have to have something on a Sunday to fill my life.

Re: Battle lines drawn

This came from a colleague. I know many are uncomfortable with my views, especially since I am in charge of pastoral issues and discipline. Apparently being godless I am without the foundations to morality. Naturally I refute that and have cited many examples of the Golden Rule that predate Judaeo-C...

Battle lines drawn

I'm having a spot of bother at school with battle lines being drawn over my non-theist position. As such there has been a great to-ing and fro-ing of e-mails. This was the first. I'd be grateful for your comments... So Steven Hawking has finally done it! Proved that God is not necessary for the cre...

Re: Why did you choose your particular user name?

Easy...

Loz is an old school nickname, derived from my Swiss surname. 2286 is the cubic capacity of classic 4 cylinder petrol Land Rovers that I enjoy restoring and driving around in. (Bit anoraky I know).
