Re: A New Problem in America

That is why I have developed that feeling of American insularity. Semantics, but I think I'd describe it more as a "myopic" perspective rather than insular; at least in the global sense.... certainly there are many, many Americans who are insulated from anything outside their individual realm, but ...

Re: A New Problem in America

He only espouses the the rhetoric of the Rapturous Right because it distracts attention away from real issues & his own pathetic history. I'd agree that you're on to something there... Most of what we are receiving from the primary media sources is theatrics and sleight of hand; that's what executi...

Re: Different effects of bad parenting on Personality Disorders

I hold the view that nature and nurture go hand in hand in our development. Undoubtedly, but let's also expand on "nature" a bit.... For example, it has been shown that teenagers who use marijuana *and* have particular genetic (actually phenotype, but no need to get technical) characteristics have ...

Re: Different effects of bad parenting on Personality Disorders

I didn't review the scholarly article, just your blog post, so maybe I've missed it, but was there a description of the manner of classification of "bad" family vs. "good" family? Certainly an interesting study, but I'd be surprised if moving certain characteristics from one column to the other didn...

Re: stem cell research

Nick, thanks for the link to that article. It is certainly an interesting topic, and I've written about it on my "blog" (does it count as a blog if I have no readers? Honestly I'm doing it in large part to create my personal "brand" to help me get a job....) but if anyone is interested in some of my...

Re: Live to Ride, Ride to Live

Looks like they got a pro rider to do that photoshoot... I say so because it looks like the rider is at maximum lean angle for that machine (look at the centre-stand... I don't see sparks but it sure looks like it's within millimeters of scraping if it's not actually touching ground).

Re: MMR Vaccine Causes Autism

well, I'm clearly out-of-the-loop... I've been busy (Sept-Dec I was doing my final courses at college) and now it's all about finding a job, finding a place to live, getting ready to move... while still trying to do my share of dependent care, cooking, cleaning, etc... As I'm intending to find work ...

MMR Vaccine Causes Autism

Well actually no, it doesn't... but the scare has caused some major health problems for people (mostly the innocent children). This article provides a thorough look into the issue and the back-room dealings that have caused the situation: http://www.bmj.com/content/342/bmj.c5258.full Obviously Wakef...

"Britain like a third world country" I didn't know you could develop gout by putting your foot in your mouth . . . live and learn, I guess... at least for some. He said Kasper had not intended "any kind of slight" but was referring to Britain's multicultural society. (as per "a spokesman from the V...

Marian is finally cleaning her motorcycle carbs... it took this long because she needed 5 quarts of her own saliva to soak the parts in. (with special thanks to the earlier references to Johnny Depp which certainly helped to facilitate getting this job completed before the onset of winter).

I've seen one of those parked, but not in motion... it's the Piaggio MP3 (from the makers of the famous Vespa). Apparently it comes as either a 125 or a 250. I'd be interested to try one out just to experience it but I think if I get a 3-wheeled "motorcycle" any time soon (i.e. in <15 years) then it...

What, Curtis, no more flooding, no fouled up plugs, no rattly chain, no more aching back, no more bugs in the face . . . ? uhm... yes. :D If I had a garage, a full set of tools, and more free time I'd be more inclined to go 'old school' but I'm more than happy to enjoy the activity known as motorcy...

What makes you hanker for one bike over another? When I bought my 2nd bike I knew I wanted a windshield. My 1st bike lacked one, and I always told myself that if I ever got another bike it would have a windshield. Beyond that I wanted: shaft drive, fuel injection, & non-sportbike style (i.e. no rea...

Re: "Educated" men

@Curtis So do you think education is rather a "way of life", comprising curiousness and openness, the will to acquire certain facts or ideas, being able and willing to reflect about yourself, a thirst for knowledge and for broadening your horizon? But does this understanding too much depend on your...
