Indoctrination stumbles in Canada

Parents at a school in Canada objected to the curriculum requirement of a course on ethics and religious culture introduced across the province last year on the grounds that it was undermining their efforts to instill Christian faith in their children. "What parents were demanding was the right to i...

Re: Teaspoons: Resistentialism or Spoonoid planet? The evidence.

When my son was a toddler we nearly ran out of teaspoons. It turned out when he very carefully put the empty yoghurt pot in the bin he also deposited the tea spoon there. To cure the sock problem I tried buying 6 identical pairs. 4 months later 3 (of the 12) had gone. I noe go sockless whenever poss...

Also, which other buildings had a plane flown into them? The Empire State Building was hit by a B-25 bomber in 1945 in thick fog. Also, which other buildings had a plane flown into them? That seems to be an important fact which is ignored by Nirvanam. Important because of the effect of that on the ...

Re: Faith, hope & charity. Is charity the greatest?

I think, perhaps in a rather simplistic way, that hope is the greatest as without hope things are unlikely to improve.

I remember it well and the host of great characters. I will be interested to see how it stands up ot the passage of time. I saw Richard Wilson being interviewed about it the other night and he said that in Scotland, people tend to ask him to say: "Miss Toner!" rather than "I don't believe it!". If y...

15/24 so I failed.

Re: Complementary therapies

I see we've moved from whether it's weird to whether it's safe. I'll give you that one - I had lumped home births in with "weird" given the propensity of those advocating the other "weird" items to go for home births. I don't consider home births weird, just relatively less safe. If it is so safe t...

Re: Healer to stars in court battle to save reputation

more hilarity for us (especially with the link to big ears) but tragedy for the victims of these charlatans. There seems to be an increase in the number of these cases. Is this because we are a more litigious society or because more people use these fraudsters and hence more suffer as a consequence?

Well, like most things this government does then yes. If it is so safe then how come independent midwives can't get insurance cover? I don't deny that the experience if everything goes ok is hugely better than stuck in a hospital.

Re: Mysterious Government

There was an article in the guardian recently on how Millibland would be britain's first atheist PM if he managed to wrestle the job from broon, or certainly britain's first openly atheist PM. I recall reading that the late Robin Cook was an atheist but kept it quiet for fear of jeopardising his pos...

According to Sharia Plan (anagram - she is the secret Muslim, not Obama), the difference between a hockey mum and a pitbull in Alaska is lipstick. I suppose it is just the small town mentality putting lipstick on a pitbull but I can't (and don't want to) figure out what they do next.

Re: Complementary therapies

There's nothing weird about home birthing. My younger child was born at home and it was a million times better than being in hospital. I would recommend it to anyone for a second or subsequent child provided their GP surgery supports it as mine did. Maria oh dear, it's that old sample size = 1 prob...
