Re: President Palin

On behalf of the US, I want to apologize for Sarah Palin. McCain must have dementia to pick that inexperienced, incompetent religious wacko.

I have no excuses for the people who will vote for them.

Re: Religion as Self-Medication

If fear of death, or disorder in the world, is the disease, then religion may be the cure. Not in my case! I was extremely afraid of hell and it almost drove me literally insane! (I'm talking psychiatrists, therapists and medication.) I don't like the idea of death, but the idea of simple annihilat...

Re: Have you ever?

Yes, I have googled my own name. My first name is very common and my last name is not uncommon, so there are lots of people with my name. (If you visit the Wikipedia page listing my name, it's a disambiguation page with six entries! None of them are about me...yet.) My website, which is my name, is ...

Re: Do you ever go to church?

Hi Nick, I understand what you're saying, but without sharing their faith, my status as godfather is essentially nullified. It's really only within the context of their religion that I have any rights or obligations regarding my niece's religious education. I think that if I pursued that path, I wou...

I usually score around -7.5, -7.5 on that test. It depends on how I interpret the question.

Re: Do you/could you have a religious partner?

I would really like to marry someone nonreligious, but given that I'm (1) picky about appearance and (2) not that successful with women in general, I might be willing to compromise for someone who has vague religious ideas that don't seem to affect her life if she's wonderful otherwise.

Re: Which newspaper do you read?

Since I'm an American, I don't read any of those. I read my (terrible) local paper, The Florida Times-Union, and sometimes the New York Times. I only read them online. Oh, yeah, also The Onion.

Re: Why did you choose your particular user name?

Mine is the from a recent film version of The Count of Monte Cristo . It was a name given to Edmond Dantes by the smugglers upon washing ashore after escaping from the Chateau D'If. It allegedly means "driftwood", but I've never found any confirmation of this. It's my online name that I use in sever...

Re: Do you ever go to church?

Since I left the Catholic Church, I've only been inside a church once, to attend my niece's baptism. That was only one month after I left. I will probably be invited to my other niece's first communion next year, especially since I was her godfather, but I don't know whether I will attend. We'll see...

This should be easy. It's a photo of me. It was taken for an application for a job in Japan. (No, I didn't get it.)
