Re: Paris killings

I think I've changed my mind on this, after listening to Hilary Benn. Violence against fascists is something I understand, and endorse. If a truly international agreement can be reached to obliterate Dae3sh completely, I must support it.

Re: Paris killings

One issue that has not come up in this whole debate, but which, (I fear) will make any kind of UN-agreed settlement very difficult to get: What happens to the Golan Heights? It is clear that in internationao law the Golan still 'belongs' to Syria. I read an article in the Jerusalem Post a couple of ...

Re: The future of Government (if any)

Ensuring that the situation was not even worse under the plans of Mssrs. Miliband and Balls. I am sure that an openly capitalist political party can manage a capitalist economy bertter than a party that doesn't have the same support amongst the capitalist class. But if the best you can say for the ...

Re: Paris killings

I am no expert in these matters, so I shall cheerfully accept correction. As I understand it, however, legal responsibilty for using lethal force falls entirely on the individual officer. He is entitled to use force, including lethal force where necessary, to protect himself or others. He is not en...

Re: Paris killings

Dave, not all bereaved families are calling for more suffering to be inflicted on the people of Syria, Iraq, or anywhere else. Some will want instant revenge, others won't. After the passage of time, the actual bereaved often develop a deeper thoughtfulness then those outraged on their behalf. Consi...

Re: Paris killings

. They are just saying on the radio that France has less security and a more open policy than Britain. So is our strict filtering regime a genuine protection? Would opening up our borders open us to similar events? It's not oflen I quote a Tory with approval, but I broadly agree with David Davis on...

Re: Are you being persecuted by 'New Atheists?'

wacky thought for the day. "New theists" could refer to a cult which believed in a radically new divinity. It is however very hard to give a meaning to "New atheists" New Atheist = someone who wasn't an atheist yesterday? well OK then - it could also mean a newborn babe who is, according to some pr...

Re: The future of Israel

but all this is peripheral. Israel will continue unless the Arabs were somehow to become far more united than they ever have been. They are in fact more disunited than ever, with Shia versus Sunni the dominant theme of Middle East politics. The Zionists must be just so happy about the way things ar...

It's like this, Dave. Whern you have been ordered to spend less money, it sort of implies you have to cut down what you spend. Ask anyone. (Except maybe Georgie-boy, who is, with all due respect, a clueless fucking coke head.)

actually I think you do demand that they be rigidly separated and if you don't, I am not sure what you do demand. I am not demanding anything at all. At your invitation, I set down why I think a sex-for-money transaction 'between equals' is not really possible in a world where a. money is a prime m...

Re: The Future of the 'The future of the..(if any)' title-me

I have reached a point in life where I hardly ever condemn anyone for anything. Saying some behaviour is harmful to others is not the same as saying a person who indulges in that behaviour is a bad person. I don't have enough belief in free will, (or in my own capacity to judge, FTM) to go around 'c...
