Those awful little plastic stirrers that you get instead of spoons - how cheap can you get? I'm sure they are the off-cuts from something else that is mass produced.

It produces certain emotional reactions; numbness, denial, guilt, anger as well as physical reactions; headaches, loss of appetite, lethargy. I once talked to a mum who had ju...

Thanks for quantifying the fasting, Compassionist. I think we were getting concerned because it was open-ended before.

Good luck and let us know how it is going.

Hello Compassionist, I am glad that you have changed your petition to a more realistic number of signatures required. Can you tell us how the fasting is going and how you are feeling? I'm sure we are all very concerned for your health, both mental and physical. Perhaps you might think about fasting ...

I think the positive benefits of prayer are more to do with the physicality of it. At work we have a sound-proofed 'quiet room' - don't ask! When the office is busy to the point of frantic, it is incredibly re-freshing to sit in the calm peaceful atmosphere and just let your mind wander for 10 mins ...

Hi Firebrand

I'm glad that you enjoyed 'Blade of Grass' and delighted that I could share it with you.

The Jenny Joseph is also a favourite, especially with my 17 year old daughter. I think she considers that I'm just about there!

Thanks Maria, for uploading mine so quickly. I couldn't decide which avatar to use so I downloaded 3 different ones and asked a few people who know me well which one I should use. This was the unanimous choice. They said it was just like me - hopefully because I am an optimist and not because they c...

My favourite poem at the moment is 'A Blade of Grass' by Brian Patten You ask for a poem I offer you a blade of grass. You say it is not good enough You ask for a poem. I say this blade of grass will do. It has dressed itself in frost, It is more immediate Than any image of my making. You say it is ...

For the past 12 years, due to coeliac disease, I have had to eat a gluten-free diet (no wheat, barley or oats). Although at the beginning it was quite challenging, recently things have improved considerably. There are many replacement foods available e.g. bread/cakes/biscuits/etc and recently EU leg...

Thanks for that Alan. At work we produce a monthly newsletter and anything that speeds up finding articles is most welcome.
