Re: The worst religion invented by man
I do not think there is really a significant difference between a religion and a cult. It's also quite possbile that scientology has more members than some of the religions in the poll, Zoroastrianism for example may have as few as 124,000 adherents remaining. (Source).

Re: The worst religion invented by man
I would vote for all the Abrahamic religions. I consider them to be essentially one religion, they all share a common origin after all. Some parts are worse than others, but they are all prone to violent fundyism. After that I would have to say it's scientology, though whether you consider that a re...

Try using google, you might learn something. (Especially google scholar.) I'm afraid the University of Google has a lot to answer for considering how much misinformation anti-vaxers are putting out on the web. Thanks for the tip about google scholar, however. I didn't know about it. Fair enough. Al...

This is the modus operandi of most religions isn't it? Religious orgainisations can only survive when they can exploit ignorance and lazyness.Alan C. wrote: Yet he still continues to terrify uneducated and illiterate people with threats of hellfire and damnation.

I'll be working on my dissertation. (running out of time!) But I'm sure there are people who are willing to day that what I study is a religion, (I am studying part of biology.) which is as much nonsense as this idea. They already have their holy days, let them stick with them, rather than try to fo...

Re: Nurse may face sack for prayer offer to patient
How is offering a prayer failing to show a "commitment to equality and diversity" (Whatever that actually means.)? Surely penalising people for making such an offer is failing to show a "commitment to equality and diversity" by denigrating thier beliefs. Not to mention that christian patients may we...

Re: Should comedians feel free to say what they like?
Comedians who are too offensive lose their audience, comedians who are just offensive enough gain bigger audiences. But many comedians who are racist and offensive, etc survive on the audiences they have and don't need bigger audiences: there are enough who like that kind of humour. Bernard Manning...

We bought a large flat PC monitor and rigged it up to a laptop (now an xbox) to watch DVDs. It's wonderful! DVDs are available of most of the things worth watching on TV (David Attenborough documentaries, Spaced, the Mighty Boosh) and you avoid all the rubbish (Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity, X-facto...

Re: Should comedians feel free to say what they like?
My view is simple: If you don't like their jokes don't listen to them. Comedians need an audience , thus it is a self regulating system. Comedians who are too offensive lose their audience, comedians who are just offensive enough gain bigger audiences. Regulation jokes would be an unnecessary waste ...

I get links to stories by Howard Pyle. Howard is my surname and he liked using my first name as a name for some of his characters. The main one which comes up is Men of Iron, though there is also the adventures of Ronin Hood.

Re: Injured man dies because he shunned conventional medicine.
There are plenty of examples of medicially useful plant, animal, fungal, etc. derived substances, some of which may have been noticed in the past, however the lack of systematic research in the past has led to the use of some truly bizarre remedies, that are probably more likely to kill the patient...
