Re: GAME ON!
What Alan says, I think you live in a parallel universe, us plebs HAVE to pay tax usually by PAYE, we do not have a choice.
Your replies are very condescending, Nick. Why do you always talk down to us?
Have you ever been wrong?

Re assumptions: From the PE article how do we know Sir Peter pays income tax and NI? We hear about his declared salary but not the tax paid. It is a red herring anyway. Sir Peter should be paying tax on his income and so should the company. It is not either/or. Difference between companies and indi...

But rather than asserting can you please explain the errors for us less well informed. +1 So, waddya think? :) Thankyou. But are you not also making a lot of assumptions about what is happening? The company and the owners are two different entities and both should pay tax. You mention income tax an...

Perhaps we might agree on THIS ? :D As someone with some professional experience of personal and corporate taxation, let me assure you that the whole thrust of this article is complete twaddle, and reveals a worrying ignorance of the topic under discussion. It was Private Eye for heavens sake. But ...

Re: GAME ON!
I'm a great believer in a second chamber but am not sure how best to choose/elect the members. The UK system is currently failing; the US system isn't any better. I'd like it to be non-political but that's just a pie in the sky wish and would never happen. The jobs should not be for life. Some sort ...

Re: Cancer and red and processed meat
Surely if vegetarianism was such a health benefit a very high proportion of sportsmen and women would be vegetarian. Whilst there are many vegetarian sports men and women I don't believe the numbers are more than a relatively small proportion.
I stand to be proved wrong.

Is it?Alan H wrote:I think it's fairly well established that vegetarians do live longer, but that it's not to do with not eating meat!
What you're saying is that vegetarians tend to be aware of fitness and health issues anyway, so probably cycle, go to gym or exercise and generally lay off alcohol etc.

Re: Cancer and red and processed meat
I think meat-eaters will look for flaws in the advice to eat less meat, and vegetarians will say "I told you so"! When a credible research paper which has been peer reviewed demonstrates that vegetarians live longer I will consider becoming a vegetarian. I still believe it is all about moderation. ...

We can do that best if our children are educated together, so that they learn to understand each other's culture and beliefs. Why should not all children learn a bit of Urdu, a few phrases of Arabic, a bit of Swahili or Xhosa, a few songs in Hebrew? Don't forget Non-belief, Secularism and of course...
