Re: The issue of Exodus (and the Tenth Plague)
The Passover is a celebration of the act known to modern international conventions as 'Collective Punishment'. Huh? How are the plagues 'punishment'? Yaweh & co were a NGO not even related to the Egyptian government. (at least according to the story) If the same thing were to happen here - A group ...

Re: Free will
Of course I wouldn't claim that the concept of moral blame serves no positive purpose at all. Just as I wouldn't claim that the concept of absolute morality serves no positive purpose at all. But I think it's worth while examining the cons as well as the pros, and considering the possibility that i...

Re: Are you a humanist or what?
I've always found the term atheist a bit odd. Like, my refrigerator is an atheist. I don't have much in common with my refrigerator, but I'm quite certain neither of us has beliefs in gods or goddesses. 'Atheist' is such a wacky word, since you can accurately use it to describe the majority of objec...

Re: Petition against Ugandan "Kill the Gays" bill
They shouldn't have to... people should come to the defense of their fellow man in general. That's like sayng babies should form an army to defend against infanticide.

Re: New York approves gay marriage
I'm from NY so, yay, go NY! We're becoming saner. (gradually)
I was living in New Paltz at the time when they first started doing (illegal) gay marriages. It's come a long way since then.
NY's a pretty liberal place to begin with though... it's odd it took this long.

Re: The issue of Exodus (and the Tenth Plague)
Yeah, the whole ten plagues thing smells of terrorism to me. I mean, killing random people to scare leaders into some political objective? What else would you call it?
