Re: Chaplains in Higher Education (merged)
I'm probably veering off the trend here, but I think that a humanist chaplain can only be a good thing - in any setting. In my experience chaplaincy or counselling work is rarely undertaken by a non-theist person. Xtians can't help themselves and usually round off positive words and helpful dialogue...

Shamelessly pinched from a friend on another forum, Sources report that the British Government fears a knock-on effect arising from recent events in the Sudan. Crowds were gathering last night in Paddington (London) in protest at the naming of a teddy-bear after their district. A spokesperson said -...

One which bugs me, but is scientifiic with a more medical leaning is the use of "Cretin" as a synonym for idiot or stupid person. Cretinism is a disorder brought about by a deficiency of thyroid hormones. It is a congenital disorder, now thankfully rare due to better antenatal care and treatment, an...

We went to see Black Sheep last week. It was absolutely gruesome, but hilarious - sort of Shaun of the Dead with sheep.

I don't know what either of the men look like, so I have no idea whether it is offensive or not. I never knew that sandals were stereotypically gay and I think that most antipodean men would be very surprised to hear that. A fair percentage of Asian men wear sandals and I don't think that means they...

I promise not to rant. I thought about it and decided that it can be used for something useful. The more of us who state that we have no religion, the fewer chaplains the health service will be able to justify employing! :idea3:   I know that here in Norn Iron such a question will remai...

Hi Jem Here is the answer to your question. This isn't a snarl at anyone on the messageboard, but the anguished cry of a nurse who is completely pi**ed off. There is in each hospital a large body of people who could not otherwise be gainfully employed. These people are called administrators, clerica...

It's compulsory in Northern Ireland too and the GCSE curriculum is purely christian. I thought this was an interesting reform, they are only obliged to include the children registered at the school in the required collective act of worship, Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989., http://www.deni.gov....
