Re: When a Young Earth Creationist discovers a 60 Myo fossil

That fellow found that group of fish fossils here in Calgary. There is a Bible Belt here and many Young Earth Creationists among them. Thank goodness he recognized it was an important find and called a paleontologist. He still holds to his 6000 yr old Earth view and maintains it is all a matter of i...

Re: Things you thought you'd be good at

(Maybe 51 was a little too old to start for someone who had never even roller-skated.) The Britsh Parachute Association, (or more probaly their insurance bean-counters) don't allow AFF students over 55 years old in the UK. Hence the trip to Spain. But I don't think it's my age (66) that's the probl...

Re: Puzzles

Dave, Through both practice and a wee bit of ability. Frequently, when I go to demonstrate writing backwards, I inadvertently discover I have picked up the pen, and am writing with, my left hand. It is weird. I occasionally catch myself with knife and fork in the wrong hand, staring at them, trying ...

Re: Puzzles

I can read these things with no problems at all. Apparently, the brain does not read all of the letters in a word. We simply require the word be the same length and that it begin and end with the correct letters. Question: Can any of you write both forward and backward with either hand? I ca...

Re: Angel Garden & Steve Paris still defame and harass other

Fascinating reading, Athena. I read your legal posting and was amazed at how complicated it has become for so simple a situation. Why has the judge not turfed this case out to free the court for more significant cases?

Re: Is life good?

Life is not always good but it can be good and can certainly be improved through wise, compassionate and constructive work. You have it! The above is the secret to a productive, meaningful and contented life. I will tell you their story...later. Right now I am preparing to host a meeting of the Ape...

Re: Is life good?

Compo I have been busy and am just now catching up on your thread. Having been down the road of hopelessness, I know how annoying it can be for someone to answer your queries with "Lighten up will you. Life is wonderful". Or, the equally insulting: "We are not going to talk like that. We are going t...

oopps...I meant to include a better argument ... try this site instead http://infidels.org/library/modern/scott_oser/hojfaq.html This is neither up-to-date nor complete in any way but seems to be a good starting point for argument. An interesting book is The Pagan Christ by Tom Harpur. Harpur is not...

http://www.josephus.org/testimonium.htm http://www.amazon.ca/On-Historicity-Jesus-Might-Reason/dp/1909697494 I have added two references at the beginning as I lost them on my first effort! Old age and all. Compassionist It is generally accepted that the reference to Jesus by Josephus is not accredit...

Re: Talk to Yourself

Well guys, I have only myself to talk to. Friends have gifted me a week at their timeshare condo in Fairmon Hot Springs, BC. http://mountainsidevillas.com/ Do not be fooled by the pictures. This is winter and in the interior valleys that means rain and/or snow. The place is gorgeous but the drive he...

Re: Another child dies courtesy of magic medicine treatments

It seems odd to me that when faced with JW who will not agree to blood products being given to their seriously ill children, the courts seem to side with science and dismiss the parents religious views, ensuring the child receives appropriate treatment. Yet in the case of one of these children they...

Re: Another child dies courtesy of magic medicine treatments

...all of them...thanks to the RC priests who proselytized and converted the "heathens" to Christianity. Oh the CofE got into the game, too. Native children were plucked from their homes and sent to boarding schools run by the churches. They were forbidden to speak their Native language and punished...

Re: Another child dies courtesy of magic medicine treatments

The media seems to be confusing two stories here. Basically, two native girls have refused treatment and turned to Traditional Healing! (read: woo) With the second girl, the courts ruled that the family had the right to return to their traditional methods of healing. In both cases, the families have...

Re: Is there a best way to die?

With my husband , I experienced his sudden but expected death. He was headed in for his 4th cancer surgery - 3rd liver resection - in 4 days and was off Warfarin. We really did not expect he would survive yet another surgery. As we sat laughing while trying to program a new cell phone and sipping on...

Oh my! Makes my wee Lego efforts a joke.

As for Christmas - Santa brought me a new 80 000 BTU high efficiency (read, high cost) furnace. I have two furnaces and the main one died mid-December when it was -20°C. AARGH!
