Re: Transformed Lives: Christian versus Humanist Testimonies

I'm with Dave B, it is just really relaxing, and I was also born irreligious. I had a small period in my early teens with Christianity, and it was one of the few things to make me cry. I don't cry easily.
I feel better and freer as a Secular Humanist.

Re: Boris bans bigoted bus ad

good question - I suppose that sex is for most people such a strong drive that such people assume that this drive is there in all others, and that it must have some direction or other; and since the direction of heterosexuality is the dominant and mainstream one, and always has been, there are grou...

Re: Socialist Humanism

I am about as comfortable around people talking about a "cure" on socialist tendencies as I am for someone talking about a "cure" on homosexuality. I know one is innate and one isn't. But that doesn't matter, the word "cure" implies it is wrong and that you are diseased with it. #1. There is no sim...

The Bible (NIV) also says in Matthew 5:11-12 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me . Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Compas...

In truth, gender is on a relative sliding scale. In relation to God, all of us are actually female, God being the Only Male.

I don't understand this "ex-gay" thing. Our perception of our sexual orientation "may" change varying degrees through-out our lives but I don't think it can be as strong as "ex-gay" I mean why do we have just "ex-gay" why not "ex-straight"? Why is it one-sided? My own perception has changed over the...

Re: Abortion/Infanticide

I can understand where you are coming from. I am pro-choise, but having spent my whole life working with people with (sometimes extremely profound) disbilities, and having the view that all human life is equally valuable, therefore deserving the same respect, how can I justify abortion on the groun...

Re: Forced sterilisation of transgenders in Sweden

I get the nasty feeling that it is something like, "OK, you want to act like a man? Then why don't you take the real step, get rid of the female reproductive bits, you won't need them after all. If you can't do that then you aren't really serious about it." I have that feeling too. But we're not as...

That sounds an awful lot like Mindfulness, Carja. I do like the sound of mindfulness, a friend of mine, an unbeliever, she does mindfulness. Oh, I know others think differently. I actually have cried myself to sleep when I was a Christian for under a year. I know there are majorities who are differe...

Comfort, Relaxing and Winding down

I am plagued by my anxiety and depression. I get wound up about people talking nonsence. I just have to comment back. If I can't it stresses me out. Even though science and history is on my side if my non-belief is challenged or if I get told I'm going to hell, I get so distressed and upset. Being d...

What have you got to say to the Pre-christian belief followers. Do they go to hell? Do you know the image of the devil came fro Herne, Pan nd Cernunnos. Pan was god of sheppards...yes they recycled it. The devil's image and Jesus' designation as lord of sheppards.

Compassionist, you're all over the place. Unfortunately man has made your condition so much worse by putting such nasty cruel relgions based on fear. You also are surrounded by Christians whih leads your decision to be completely cultural. You have only chosen religions so far that involve fear and ...

Re: Petition to retain the ban on Capital Punishment in the UK

This would be against EU law. And I know the UK government isn't fantastic at upholidnig their laws. We don't have decent housing for those earning under 32,000 (that's pounds taken from the model of the netherlands), our internet is still monitored. But to be honest unfortunately they can get away ...

Spammer: Will you also look at statistics for postnatal depression. That depression that occurs after a woman gives birth. As well as what the others have suggested to look at. My advice is instead of rallying against something which has saved lives and is a right (when it wasn't a right it still ha...

Early Christianity is long gone, Mike. That was different to the stuff today also a few things have survived. Can you tell me now, whihch way of living is correct? Is God is eternal why was his book not here at the start of us religious animals (humans to you)? If he's so eternal how come it took so...

I have no problem with Reincarnation. I don't necessarily believe in it but something like it seems less irrational than the Christian idea. Christianity as so many claims and a lot have been debunked. But something like Buddhism has hardly been touched for debunking. I know it doesn't try to claim ...

As it happens I have met many pagans, and they all keep their clothes on. In fact some of them are asexual. In fact none of them are that sexual, one lives on her own with cats and they are not black.

None have been sanctimonious.
