Henny Penny
For some reason, I've just remembered a silly word game my friends and I used to play at school back in the 1970s. It was called Henny Penny, and I thought it might be worth trying as a Club Soda game. The idea is to think of a rhyming pair of words that sit together in a fairly meaningful way, to state how many syllables they each have by saying whether the pair is a Hen Pen, a Henny Penny, or a Hennikin Pennikin, and then giving a clue to the meaning. The words can be an ordinary pair of rhyming words, like "cold mould" (Hen Pen: chilly fungus), or a rhyming compound, or reduplicative, where one or both of the words might be a nonsense word, like "teeny-weeny" (Henny Penny: extremely small). The person who gets the correct rhyming pair then gives their own clue. Hope that makes sense.
Oh well, here goes:
Henny Penny: unpleasantness above the eyes

I many have got this idea totally wrong, but could the answer be sinus-itis?
And if I need to provide the next one....
Henny Penny:William isn't sensible

Ah, no. I didn't explain it properly. The two words (or two parts of a hyphenated compound word) have to rhyme fully; "sinus" doesn't rhyme with "itis". Let me answer animist'sVicky wrote:I many have got this idea totally wrong, but could the answer be sinus-itis?
cool Yule
and give another clue to my first one

Yep!philbo wrote:Emma- is yours a "horrid forehead"?
Easy-peasy? If so, you have to say Henny Penny, to show how many syllables it is. (Hey, I didn't make the rules, and we were only twelve. )philbo wrote:H-P: simple, and like it's made with small green vegetables
Re: Henny Penny
OIC.. missed that bit of the explanation, and my natural laziness took over.
Yes, that one was easy-peasy.. and so was the answer.

Tsch! Can't let you get away with that. It doesn't rhyme! The stressed vowels have to rhyme. (The second syllables are correct, though.)animist wrote:not sure it is right, but I like it: Lite-r Peter

Re: Henny Penny
No, that would be three syllables, so not a proper Henny Penny. But I meant that the second syllable of each word was correct: [---][/---]er [---][/---]er.
Alternative clue: Cole has lost a few inches

Actually, it was quite St Trinianesque when I was there. But the way we played this game, it seemed much easier!getreal wrote:Geez! What kind of school did you go to, Emma?

I was going to make it a "baby sized portion . . ." but thought that would be too obvious.
Over to you >
PS: Emma, did I do right to make the end of the Henn... etc. have the same sound as the answer, or is it a case of Henn for all consonant endings and Henny for all vowel endings?
