one jump ahead word game

Otherwise known as the Games Room, think of this as a subforum of the social club reserved just for sociable icebreaker games. Beware - they can be addictive!

hi Emma - your comment about proper nouns. Well, it was me wot started this game, so wot I say goes, geddit? Anyway, your first contribution was to wonder if we could keep it going, so just trying to be flexible, yes? (hope you know when I am joking) :laughter:

pooper

BTW, my lapse into proper names was because Kit Carson was my hero when I was about 6 years old (though not now I have looked at Wikipedia about his career); this was even before the Davy Crockett craze of 1957

er, sorry Thundril, I do have to query "clock". A clock measures time, but I have never heard the phrase "time clock" - have you?

Correction, I have now found something (it records attendance at work I think) so I retract my query! The word I wanted was "piece", but that can wait for another time!

Third message!!! Is the word you want "work"?

Yes. Thanks, animist. I jumped in without reading the earlier pages. Just looked like a free-association thing. But now I have read pages 1-3 of this thread, I think I can say, er, Clapham Common?

[Not a nice combination - unless one is French I suppose! That'd be a whole lot of purée!]

Only because I thought of "chestnut" and then needed a new word - and I like chestnut purée, even if I did make myself sick on it as a kid at Christmas back in 194(mumble).

Snap!

I always make sure there is a follow-up to my pair, and that is exactly the new pair I thought of, Vicky!

was that a homemade puree? Can't imagine many families buying a tin of this back then, the Age of Austerity! I fondly remember bread and hot milk (plus sugar) - oh, we was poor but happy!
