Loved the picture, Athena. There is a hostelry on the road to Gen Coe, the Drovers' Inn, which has a selection of dead anomals in the lobby including a very fine two headed lamb. I suppose even taxidermists have a sense of humour.

I'm getting me another dog next year, but am dithering about what to get. I'd appreciate any comments/advice/thoughts.
I've always had collies and know the breed pretty well, but I have a bit of a hankering for a brittany-just for a change. I thought I was pretty set on this untill I was speaking to my neighbour this evening. he often takes my dog along with hsi two when he takes them for walks. He was telling me that he took them from Derghorn to Kilmarnock along the old railway, got the bus back and Tip still had the energy left to join some local lads playing football (on a proper 11 aside pitch) for an hour. He said how much he loved the dog and what a character he was.
This has made me re think my brittany idea. Tip was a very difficult dog for me to train, but has turned out to be a wonderful, reliable and biddable family pet and I'm thinking that maybe I should stick to the breed I know best.

Please don't anyone suggest a re homing. It makes me feel very guilty.

Just found this and wanted to add it

Satire has now crept into the world of dog training.

It's quite disturbing though as some trainers (such as Cesar Milan) still hold with this sort of totally discredited crap

That disturbed me, I have never seen a cat express what seems like abject fear to that degree - not fighting fear, just terror. But we don't know the cat's normal demeanour.

Me too Dave, I couldn't even watch the whole clip, the cat quite apart from the vocalisations was clearly distressed.

Just posting to say that Willow, our fabulous half Scottish wildcat has just returned to us for the winter :happyclappy: Last seen in June, he seems fatter than last year. No mites, a few ticks - now removed - and I'll get defleaing stuff tomorrow. Must be cause the vile dog currently living with us has gone on hols... bridges to jump off...

To have a semi feral animal return to you like that must be a very emotional experience.

I once remember a swift that was quite evidently at the point of death from old age (that someone had brought into the animal centre where I worked as a volunteer) willingly climb onto my finger, just like a budgie, when it fell off its perch (not yet for the final time). Something told that bird that it was in a safe place with safe people. I felt quite honoured.

Fia, one of Rosa' 5 cats always disappears around May and returns about now, apparently it lives on baby rabbits all Summer.

I know this sounds bizarre, but I assure you it is true. When I was sailing home from the Canaries a small bird landed on my head and went to sleep!
