Fire - god or devil?

#1 Post by animist » June 14th, 2017, 1:38 pm

i don't really know that much about fire, but the awful Kensington disaster makes me want to say something about it. The Zoroastrian religion was IIRC based on respect for this elemental part of life, the fiery Sun is the basis of all our lives, and the anthropologists tell us that cooking with fire makes us human rather than merely animal. I can't believe that I spent many years of reading, albeit only as a librarian or periodicals indexer, so much literature over the last few decades about how to avoid the dangers of this mixed blessing, yet still it kills as well as sustains us

I like the sun but fire has ruined us.

Fire, via the use of fossil fuels, sustains our meat eating diet, which is causing global climate change and corrupting the environment which we are passing up to our own children.

Fire may have been a blessing in the past but is now our enemy.

Science seems to be leaning to the conclusion that man was not meant to be a meat eater to the degree we now are.

Fire is neither good or evil but how we use it has become evil.

We are at the top of the animal list due to language. Not due to the use of fire.

Regards
DL
